Crazy night. Watched the fire come down the 14th fairway towards my buddies house on Black Gold Golf Course. Fire fighters were able to knock it down but it was way to close for comfort. Crazy how fast the fires move. What really got my blood boiling was a call from my wife who works for a PD warning us about looters. I guess people were robbing the houses that were evacuated. Scum.

This is no fun... my wife's parents, brother & sister (3 sep. houses) all had to evacuate in Yorba Linda. I was in Placentia visiting my parents and had to take the 91 > 5 > 605 > 60 > 71 to get home... took 2 hours instead of 25 min.

Last night we had front row seats to a MMA event that we had to forfeit b/c traffic was so bad (took 1 hour to go about 4 or 5 miles from the house)

Oh well, at least our families are okay so far and no property lost. Hope nobody here has lost their place or any belongings. I'm in Chino Hills if anybody near here needs any help.

We feel pretty safe right now.. although our house/cars/yard/dogs are COVERED in ash.

To the north of us it's total devestation. All we see looking that way is a wall of smoke.

Fire got within a couple of miles. Wierd to see places we normally go (Costco, vet, home depot, etc) on the news and surrounded by fire and evactuated.

But we are fine.. hope all the other board members in the area escaped as well.

That is good to hear Steve, you guys (Ca) have been hit by some pretty bad fires in the last few years!

Perhaps the local FD should instigate a burning off every couple of years to keep most of the flammable rubbish (plant rubbish at that) down. They do that where I grew up in Australia as we get a yearly grass that grows about 8' high and then dries out and is very flammable, leave it go for a few years and you're asking for terrible results.

Wish everyone over there the best and hope you are all OK! I can't offer physical help but my thoughts are with you all. If you want to escape to another part of the world I have a spare guest room you are welcome to borrow.

THey are allowing it to burn up close to areas (wher eit is easily containable) for that exact reason now.

We got evacuated last night about 10pm. The fire was about 500 feet from are house and burning pretty good when we left. Fortunatly we didn't lose anything we just have some smoke damage. Now my house smells like a camp fire.

That's a bummer for sure, but not the major bummer your house burining down would be.

      Stay safe everyone.

The ash here in Long Beach yesterday was horrible. Today wasn't too bad and I spent the whole day wakeboarding... ya know to stay safe and close to the water.

although its a good idea, its way too populated and theres just too much for us to burn out.

we fight fires every year here in orange county, sometimes multiples a month (most dont make the news because we hold them to less than a few acres) and we dont lose houses. its very rare for us to have an issue with this, especially in newer developments. stucco siding and comp roofs offer an enormous amount of protection, but if one ember makes it to the attic, youre done. this fire really wasnt responsible for the loss of that many homes. it was the fact that one structure would spit embers and light off 10 more homes.

we are proactive in orange county when it comes to our urban interface though. we have fire prevention education that helps home owners determine what they can do to help us save their home. it all leads back to defensible space though. green belts just down right save homes. unfortunately, if your neighbor wont follow the rules and recommendations, youre going to be at risk as well.

Well I know the feeling. I live right in the middle Chino Hills. We had everthing packed and ready to go. Lucky for us we never had to leave. We had the fire coming down Carbon Canyon to the east and from up the 71 from the south. Glad everything worked out for you too.

Chuck, glad to hear you guys are fine! We're right at the south end of Chino Hills right before the 91. Both the Yorba Linda and Carbon Canyon fires were creeping up on our neighborhood so my girlfriend and I moved our cars over to a friend's place in Mira Loma for the weekend just so we didn't have to shuffle them if we did get evac'd. Fortunately the fire never got as far as our neighborhood, but came within about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile of us. Houses less than 2 blocks from us were evacuated and the neighborhood was used as a staging area for about a dozen bulldozers and firetrucks. Thankfully by Sunday morning the fire had either been put out or had moved north of us.

Steven, glad everything is okay out by you too! I have a few friends in Yorba Linda/Anaheim hills as well and thankfully they're all okay and didn't have to leave their homes. Must have been pretty scary out there though.

I know our cars mean more to us than anything but at times like this you have to worry about your family and stuff you cant replace.

Steve your car is sick but you can always rebuild it better as I know you have things you would love to do different now.

With that said everyone around the fire be safe and worry about each other. You cant replace pictures of loved ones and memories fade over time.
