Need ideas on how to fix shock mounts

      Here's what I have now:
      1968 Camaro

Car was mini-tubbed. Shock mounts in the trunk were moved more towards the center.
      Passenger Side Shock Mount

The replacement sheetmetal in the trunk is flat and doesn't seem to be reinforced, so where the shocks mount, the metal is cracking. The metal around the shock mount flexes and squeaks real bad. We welded the cracks once, but it's still getting worse (I guess beating it up on the track didn't help).

Shock mounts under the car. Note, they are welded to the plate that also has the traction bar welded to it.

Now, when you look up to where the shocks go up to the trunk mount, the shock passes through some other sheet metal. Is this the original trunk floor or something that's supposed to also be there?

      So here's my dilemma.
At some point, I think I might change to a 4 link...just not in the budget now. I want to find a way to reinforce the shock mounts so I can drive the car safely and without having to listing to the horrible squeaking sounds.

I don't want to replace the whole trunk floor...seems like a lot of work on a finished car.

I have access to good welding equipment and a great welder/body guy. I don't have access to a lift...but can get it pretty high off the ground with jackstands and ramps.

      Please start tossing around ideas.

Sure looks like thats what they did just patch over the old? No wonder the top sheetmetal is cracking.

Looks like time to do it right.

I would cut 1/8" plate 5x6 or so and plate it like you would for rollcage to help spread the load and cut the upper mount thats allready there and use it again on top of the new plate weld every thing solid.. that should work till you are ready to improve your rear setup...DK

The competition engineering pieces look good but they mount the shocks parralel rather than offset for the 1969 camaro. So how would you use this on a 69?
