Rear main
Hi all,
My rear main just went out in my 455 Pontiac, and I was wondering what is required to replace it. Does the oil pan have to come out?
Thanks.

Oh yeah. Oil pan and at least the rear main cap. That is a rope type seal and is going to be a pain in the ass to fish through, in the car.

Yeah, I plan on replacing it with the rubber seal from BOP. As far as fish through do you mean remove? Why would it be a particular pain?

To fish it through without droping the crank.

hi all, I'm here from little old New Zealand, just to add my 2 cents, I have found this is a common problem on the pontiacs and the rubber from BOP is the cure for this. I have fitted 3 in the last 6 months to cure these problems on the old pontiacs.
