How much increase in pay before you would pack up & move?

MOVE, to North Orlando/South Jacksonville, it's what I did some 11 years ago after 53 years in Maryland/outside DC in the suburbs.....

the lo taxes, cheep housing, homestead tax breaks, inland is safe from hurry cains.....buy a slab house with solid masonry construction, no frame except roof, obviously......

Air Conditioning is for the Heat and Humidity....woopie doo....

NO car inspections, not even for emissions....so your hotrods are safe and even encouraged.....

gas is 290/gal today....

I wish I had made the move some 40 years ago.....

Gas here yesterday was $2.55....... I don't know, still not convinced.

I'd move my small business to a warmer climate "if" I could take my cleintele with me. But it took 10 years to build that trust.

I was thinking Arizona would be nice. I've always enjoyed the Phoenix area.

Year-round outside car activities rather than a 5 month hibernation like Colorado.

Florida is great, but I'm not big on humidity at this stage of my life.

Scot, there are some choices to be weighted out, but it sure was nice sitting in the sun drinking beer lookn' at Hot Rods at the Eckler Show on Saturday!!!!

Probably look at the commute -it will be long to the area from Orlando. Go to City Data forum and search and look around at what people say. You will work out near the coast and maybe live around Titusville. Check insurance rates. We looked at the Melbourne area and the rates were outrageous. Check the schools. It depends on your needs and if you really want to move. I am looking seriously at Dayton. The Beavercreek schools are some of the best in the country. So that has a big impact on my decision and also that I am unemployed.

I also think that is the combined company of Lockheed and Boeing is it not? The benefits for the Locheed group are not as good as other divisions. Also some of these divisions do not offer relocation. It is weird that one division will and the other won't and they are located in the same area.

not to hijack, but alan66ss, Dude!, please be very careful about moving to Dayton. There's not much left here, it's kinda bleak. Yes, you have Wright Patterson AFB and it will be here for a LONG time with it's various contracting companies. Many corporations have left or greatly down-sized.

Dayton is one of the Forbes top 10 fastest DYING cities in the country, and Ohio has 6 of the top 10!
Cincy and Columbus do seem to be holding up well though.

I've thought of this as well, but as a mechanical engineer/manager I'm limited to where there is manufacturing. Funny thing is I don't make much money here in WI, but everywhere I've looked the pay seems to be about the same even though the cost of living is higher. Sure would be nice to have car stuff going on all year. I hate the cold!!!

Looking at a pic of the US, FL sems to need some viagra. Its the limp **** of the US. I lived here most of my life. got a job with intel moved to Chandler,Az, then to Portland,Or. Way big mistake, then family issues caused us to move back to FL, another big mistake. Fl looks like a no state tax state (run down). Home of the newly wed and nearly dead. Since OR I left Intel and got a job with the USPS. Got a xfer back to phoenix. Plus wife has allergies and Az was the kindest on her allergies. I'm am going for actually a slight pay cut. no relo, and no increase in pay. All the other benefits of moving to az outweigh just the pay. Cars dont rust in az. awesome junkyards out there as well. much better weather for bike riding. Sand dunes, sand rails quads. Street racing laws in FL are absurd. You can get pulled over if a cop thinks you are racing. even if u are the only car. Yes the no emissions rock but it wasnt always that way. Heard of talk about them bringing it back. Only hear say as I havent reasearch the truth about that. We live in Zephyrhills and got hit by 4 hurricanes one year. Only place safe in fl from hurricanes is another state. However one main thing I dont like about Az is its a border state (mexico) Oh well cant win em all. Our little town doubles when the snow birds come down. Z-hills have a nick name of the town of broken glass. plenty of fender benders to go around for everyone. Oh in the case of evacuation u have to main interstates. I75 and I95. They suck during normal traffic. Imagine during an evac. Granted no state is perfect. U gotta pick the pros and cons that are important to u. I am way tired of FL. I would say stay away, but someone else likes it here.

Oh while I can I want to get alotta land in AZ, that way when CA slides into the ocean I will have ocean front property in AZ.
