First day at work (Camaro story)

Today was the first real workday for me at my new unit. I got the check in process all done; email, security/access card, weapon, gear issue .......

So I was working with a guy and we were talking cars. He is the same age, son's the same age as my girl, married same ammount of years, stationed on the same base before.

So he tells me about this Camaro that his pop-in-law sold him for $500. I didn't think much of it, $500 Camaro's are usually worth about, what? $500.

My car happens to be in my buddy, Ray's, shop building on the way home for this guy. I was going over to work on the car after work today anyway so asked if he wanted to see it and he suggested then we could go see his. I was thinking if I've seen a $500 Camaro I've seen them all.

All he talked about was it was a little rusty and green and he wanted to put white racing stripes because his wife wanted to do it another color and the only way she would let him paint it original green is if he put the stripes on. he said it was a four speed and he had one at his pop-in-law's.

So, he was drooling over all of Mr. Rays restored cars like the 67 conv. Dart GT, 69 Hemi RR, 70 383/4spd Super Bee, 67 440 2 4bbl Sattelite, and his project cars like the 67 GTX, the 70 R/T Chally I sold to Ray, and another Super Bee V-code. Well, of course my multi primer colored supercharged Pro-touring 'cuda.

I have to tell you I wasn't excited to go see his car and thought the 15 minute car ride to his house would be a total waste of time. So we pulled up to his house and he was grinning and pointing at a Camaro underneath a tarp and said something like, "You're going to flip when you see this". Yeah right I thought.

So we take the tarp off and I see a 69 Camaro. probably a 5-7 out of 10 for a project car. Cowl induction, duck tail spoiler, Z28 badges. We lifted off the hood and his just ear to ear with his grin and he's pointing at his DZ 302 blocked car!

Now I'm grinning and laughing cause I thought all along it was some insignificant junker. It is all there and very very restorable, its #'s matching and the Muncie 4 speed that is still at his in-laws is the original 4 speed!

      I was pleasantly surprised.

Does anyone have pictures of the green color on a Z with white stripes and pro-touring esque styling ie. wheels?

I started telling him about this site and encouraged him to take look here.

Hey, if you still got that gold Camaro project, I'll give you 500 for that!
