How much increase in pay before you would pack up & move?

From central Indiana to east-central Florida. How mucy increase in pay before you would consider moving & changing jobs? Just a somewhat hypothetical question......

Considering the weather, the beach, 12 month cruising, cost of living, No state income tax, constant motoring events, I would move for a pay cut!

I have lived in Florida all my life, and I don't really like it hear I don't do good in heat, I would prefer north or south carolina but I will say Florida around mid october and it starts to cool off it is great.

20% raise plus moving expenses, after you have checked the area and any things that are important to you as if you are living there. Otherwise there isnt really a financial reason to do it.

I would also look at the cost of living in the area. Some places you can make more money but with housing costs being so different between states a 200k house in your area may be nice but a 200k house there may be a dump.

I would also look at the cost of living in the area. Some places you can make more money but with housing costs being so different between states a 200k house in your area may be nice but a 200k house there may be a dump.

The weather in Florida is not a plus in my book, but, you know it's all about leaving friends and family,....future job growth and opportunities, Cost of Living as mentioned already.

I grew up in and still visit Central Indiana.
For the move you mentioned, I'd like to see 20% before considering the things above.

I think the answer depends on the cost of living for each city. There is no way I would move from Dallas to San Diego for 20% due to the cost of living. Similarly, I would move to Dallas from Silicon Valley for equal pay, or maybe even a small pay cut. Other factors would be quality of life due to weather, taxes, quality of schools, crime rates, traffic congestion etc.

I was down at NASA for work & went to see Frank one night. While at work, was offered a job. About 15% increase, but he said they didn't think they would be able to pay to relocate & I will loose 2 weeks vacation.

We were looking at moving to the US from Australia (before the financial issues that are currently plaguing the world). Worked out that even if we moved over on equiv of my current salary we'd be in a better position with the differences in the cost of living. The only problem being that it was going to cost us about $50K US to relocate everything and set-up over there.

Even saying that we were ready to move over, but the current issues kind of put a stop to that, with offers put on hold, and the offers were looking really good too :(

I've moved state for work several times here in Australia, generally about 3000miles. I've done it once for more money than I was on, experience was great but in hindsight the cost of living was too high and the added benefits were not worth the move.

I've also done it twice without having a job to move to and the last time I took over a 60% pay cut when I did find a job. This was just because we wanted a change and the potential was there. So what I am saying is that sometimes moving for just a pay increase is not all that needs to be looked at, the cost of living, the additional benefits and other lifestyle changes may be more important than just the money.

Do you really want to move to Florida? Is there something there that will make your life more enjoyable or is it just time for a change and the experience will be fantastic? That is what I'd weigh up personally!

Was it a contracting job or government position? Actually, both will pay for relocation, but it is just part of the negotiation process. I used to live in Jacksonville, Florida. I moved from Dayton, and lived in Florida for about 4 years. Then I got another offer on transferring back to Dayton. I was paid for relocation on both moves. As for the weather in Florida, it is great in the winter. Although, the summer is too hot and humid. You can adjust to the bug problem, but it makes it difficult during the holidays if all your family is in up North.

I work for a company that makes a high end CAD system & they use it, I don't know that NASA is the proper term, it is United Space Alliance. I was there to help them with some issues they are having. He said "probably not" to the relocation costs, & no to getting anything other than the 2 weeks new hires get. That is a bummer because I have 4 weeks now.

I've been here my entire life. I have passed up several 6 figure job offers up north to say here. That being said I've passed up a few good ones here too b/c I would never live in South FL or the FL Panhandle (arm pit). Summers are hot but I remember it being hot at my cabin in the NC mountains too.

Actually, it is just a firm that is contracting with NASA. Every company that I have interviewed in the past will pay relocation expenses. Typically it just includes your household goods, by a major moving company. My last move was the full relocation package, in addition to household goods, it paid for the closing costs on my house that I sold and the house that I bought here. Also paid for temporary housing costs and other miscellaneous expenses. If a company won't pay for interview trips or relocation expenses, then it is not a company that you want as your employer.

I have lived in several places, but if I relocated again it would be out west or Germany. I really like driving on the Autobahn!

If you're moving "for" a job, you can deduct your moving expenses.
15% isn't a bad increase, but you have to compare cost of living in both areas.

Don't forget homeowners insurance when you do it.
