      Wheel tire combo pic

Does anyone have a picture of a 17" x 11" wheel with a 275/40/17 tire mounted to it?

Don't have a pic but I know it would look very stretched out.

      I wouldn't be putting a 275 tire on an 11-inch wheel.. that's 315 territory.

      It would be unsafe IMO.

I considering running the new TOYO R1R but they don't make a 315 17" tire. ( $100 discount on 4 R1R's prior to 10/31 ) We also have a club member running them on his vette and he's running very good time. The spec sheet of the 275/40/17 shows the widest rim acceptable as being 11". I would rather go with the 11" rim so in the future I have the option to go with a 315 tire. Oh and the 11" rim looks better.

Buy some Nitto 315s or something. 275s on an 11 will look like @$$.
The vette has a 275 on a 10.5 and it looks bad to me.
      Did you already order 11s? All 4 or a 9.5 11 combo?

If you got the 9.5 11 combo you could run Toyos up front and some DRs out back. Thats been done w some success according to some on LS1 tech (mainly before good road race 315s were avail).

I took some pics w the old camera (our good one is at Nikon for warranty work). It is night, and pics are not great, but it illustrates the point. These are 275/40/18s on C5 Z06 18x10.5s (I think 11s would be worse).

You can see the tread is smaller than the rim. I personally really dislike that. These gotta go for me. I think I'll find 2 more front 17x9.5s and get a set of Toyo's also.

But Matt, If you want to go wide, just bump out of Street Unlimited, and get some Nittos like Helm has.

If I didn't see those pictures I wouldn't even think it was possible...not to mention unsafe.
I bet the sidewalls wouldn't stretch over an 11" wheel...

Alot of people (probably most) don't like that look, but I don't think it is unsafe. The tire manufacturers would not risk that liability by stating a recommended rim width of 9-11".

I thought it would look worse, I don't think it looks to bad. I think I'll make a decision on tires first then do a mock-up and figure out my back-spacing. Either way, I plan on keeping the Budnik / Pilot Sport combo for cruising.

Steve, how do the R888's wear on the street?

I don't think it would be unsafe, if Toyo says an 11 is w/in spec, and the difference is minor anyway. 275 mm is 10.8 inches. In fact I think going this route would yield less sidewall flex than running wider tread than rim.

It is purely an looks thing.

So are you thinking 11s up front? Or 9.5 front and 11 rear? Because if they are purely going to be your race rims and you want cheap, plentiful 275/40/17s all around, I don't see why not 9.5s all around. Plus, then you can rotate.
