Dual MC Install on a 68 Camaro Pics

Here is how I installed a dual MC and balance bar on my 68 BBC Camaro using the stock pedal assembly and a few off the shelf parts from Stock Car Products. Due to the location of a turbo downpipe on the driver's side there was no room for a MC booster. The stock manual MC was about 3/4" from contacting the downpipe. Not good. What I needed a good manual brake system to go with the C5 Corvette rotors residing on all 4's.
The first pic is of the stock firewall.

The stock pedal bracket is part of the steering colum support and the hardest part of this install was getting the motivation to tear it out.

Next I make a rough cut as high up as possible.

Here is the uncut 3 hole bracket with 5/16's grade 8 studs welded on.

Next task, trim the plate to fit using a template. The firewall is not completely flat so extra material was added to the plate to get it to fit flush.

      Weld it on and re-paint.

Here is the stock pedal bracket.

Material must be removed in order to clear the dual MC pushrods and balance bar. I added a stud to the front. It provides an anchor to the new bracket welded to the firewall. There are three bolts holes in the rear that are also used to support the steering collum.

Here is balance bar assembly and tube welded to a tab that bolts to the stock brake pedal. There are two reasons to do it this way, one maintain the stock pedal position and pedal ratio and to make it easier to assemble under the dash.

Here is the whole assembly ready to install. The clutch pedal is from Stock Car Products and is a perfect fit. I do not know if the stock clutch pedal will clear the balance bar.

Here are the Wilwood MC's a 3/4" for the front and 1" for the rear. Future plans are to wrap the downpipe and make a heat shield for the MC's. Although I currently have an auto trans, the 3 hole plate gives me the option to have a hydraulic clutch.

I am currently in the process of running the new brake lines and it will probably a few months before I get this project car rolling. Updates to follow. One note if you are looking to do something similar an easier option exists. CNC Brakes makes a dual MC bracket that will bolt to the original firewall MC hole. None of their distributors list a part with a Chevy bolt pattern but I called CNC and confirmed they make it. Unfortunately my turbo downpipe's location prevented me from going that route.

Very cool. I cant tell though how the pedals are affixed to the OE bracket. Did you retain the original pivot and attach your brake/clutch contrivance fwd of that?
