      3 point Seat belts

I'm looking at converting the old style belts in my 72 Nova to a 3-pt. style. Anyone have any feedback between the Morris Concepts versus Julianos 3-pt set up?

Based on a quick look at the Juliano's site, the Morris belts will be much more nearly a straight-forward bolt-in installation.

The basic parts of all the kits are the same stuff.

The advantage to the Morris stuff is the small adapters he includes to make it truly bolt in. You have to decide if that's worth the extra $$$.

I went with Wesco Performance belts, with very little fabrication had a bolt in kit.

      WILWAXU,

Did you install these in your 71 Nova? Which style did you use and what modifications did you have to do? If you have any pictures, that would be great.

First, for best results, you will need to make sure you order the belts with the drop down top mounts.

Fabrication amounted to drilling larger holes in the upper mounting plate (supplied with the kit). Once the holes are opened up you can reuse the factory bolts (button heads for best results) and mount the plate directly to the stock location. (The Morris kit comes with a nice mounting plate for the top location.)

The lower mount I used the angle brackets supplied with the kit. Pretty straight forward.

That's all you really have to do to have functioning belts. But I'm a little picky and wasn't happy with how the belts hung. Basically it looked like the "tongue" of the buckle was on backwards. To flip it around meant re-looping all the mounts. It was a PITA, but the results look/work better for me.

I spent less $$$, but I did have to put 2-3 hours into the "figuring it out" the best way to mount it.

I did not like the idea of having the shoulder type belt running up and back down when not in use. So after looking at my fourth gen I came up with the idea to fabricate a bracket that I mounted to the original shoulder mount point. By adjusting the angle of the bracket I was able to avoid the roll-bar and bring it to through the fourth gen seat belt guide.

Willwaxu, I ran into the same situation with the belt ends being at the wrong angle and just mounted them as is for now. Did you remove the stitching and then restitch?

I didn't restitch anything or mess with the retractor. I just re-looped the drop down and buckle to place them opposite side. You have to pass the belt back through the buckle and upper mount which takes a little patience ;) (rare for me). btw, I'm putting 4th Gen Camaro seats in my Nova, so I'll have a setup simular to yours.

I still use the factory 3 point setup in my 4th Gen Formula even though I have harness. It's mounted to the rollbar and a seat bar. I keep it tucked out of the way for normal driving.
