      Hot-Rod "ism's"

Thought it might be fun to catalog some of the odd coloquialisms that exist in Hot-Rodding.

Heck, I think the term "HOT-ROD" itself qualifies.

      One of my favorites:

"Runs like a raped ape." or "Runs like a stripe'ed a$$ed ape."

The imagery always kinda makes me laugh.

      What are your favorites?

"peg-leg rearend" always struck me as an odd analogy. Understood though.

The term "bench racing" comes to mind. Nice way to say "BSing and boasting"

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

I work in a speed shop, if I hear one more person call nitrous "Naws" I may go postal. And yeah, people still come in looking for 3/4 race cams.
Me and the other counter guy keep a list:
      Crowl Induction scoop (cowl induction)
      Skributer (distributor)
MDS box (any MSD ignition box)
Calibrated hose (braided line, like Earls etc.)
      Fool Pump
And everyone needs a 750 double pumper.

Too many years in the aftemarket checking in.

Man, some people destroy brand names and parts.

"Yeah, I gotta 350 four bolt outta truck"

      "Eldenblook" instead of Edelbrock

"Yeah I need some ARP head bolts" Not A-R-P

"I'd like to tub my 13 second car out"

"I wanna tunnel ram with dual CLODS"

"I wanna a gear drive for the sound it makes"

"I wanna beat Mustangs and Camaros"

      "I got a Chevy 350 big block"

"I want my car to sound like a Mustang"

"Yeah I wanna set of Flow daddys (Flowmasters) for my Cutlass"

      It'll run 10s

"Stab and steer" Think AC Cobra....

It's "Blue Printed" Usually comes right after the 3/4 race cam statement.

Three Angle Valve Job. Shouldn't they all be at a minimum?

and yes, I've heard El-Da-Brock too many times to count. Good one.

good one I heard recently - "A nine iron" as in "that car is a nine iron"... perfect from a hundred yards.

or was that about a girl?... either way, still works.

Rather than the annoying mondegreens how bout we stick with the colloquial terms unique to the Hot-Rod lexicon.

The stuff that when you say it, the folks in your office have to ask, "a what?"
