Question about Welder setting for SF Connectors

I'm MIG welding in my dse sf connectors and have a couple dumb questions for the people that have done this. What settings did you use on your welder? Should it be set to the thickness of the floor pan (~16g) or the sf connector (~1/8")? Also did you tack or stitch weld the pan to the sf connectors?

Good question, Dave. I would get some scrap steel the same gauge as the connectors and the floor. Set the welder to the settings you use for the floor (thin) and see if it burns the connector steel... it should, but you may have to move slower. This way you have less chance to burn through the floor steel. Usually you burn the thick first on a thick-to-thin weld situation. Start with the gun on the thick, then move your bead to the thinner material with a quicker contact time. Make sense? Tack it up first, then finish it off with beads 1 - 1.5" long, moving around to keep the heat down... metal really likes to twist when it gets hot. That's my $.02. Good luck!
