Grommets or bulkhead connector for trunk mount battery?

Which do you prefer and why? Is one brand better than the other for these parts?

I have the MAD Enterprises kit, and a Painless wiring harness. He uses 4(I think) guage for the battery cable, is that good? It's smaller than normal though.

EDIT: The 8ga wire is a primary power wire, not a battery cable. Mark at MAD recomends the 1/0 or similar sized for the main battery cables.

      Sorry for the confusion!

But I still need opinions on gromments or bulkhead!

Hmm, it must be like 8 guage in the kit then. It's pretty small.

Yep, 8ga, I wonder why he uses so small of a cable.

      2 O Welding Cable

I used 2 O welding cable at $1/ft. It is very flexible and has handled the load fine so far. I used a bulkhead connector at the firewall after my grommet setup caused a short and a fire! I don't remember where I got the bulkhead, so try Summit/Jegs/eBay. I also used connectors that had the solder already in them, I just had to use a small propane torch to get them hot enough to install. I got them off of eBay too.

I was going to do the optima route but chose to use 2 Odyssey PC680's instead (13# each, instantaneous cranking amps of 1360, can be stored for long periods of time, and many other great reasons). My setup is consists of the 2 small batteries installed at floor level and wired in parallel. In order to get the same from the optima battery line I would also have to purchase 2 6-volt versions and wire them in series, and the cost was twice as much, hence the decision to get the Odyssey's. I have heard that 1 PC680 is enough for some cars, but I wanted enough juice for any occasion...

      Riley,

If installing a battery in trunk and bulheads at firewall, put a 200a circuit breaker between it. You can buy the kind that have a manual reset switch for $20-25. Its cheap insurance in case of a short and can use it as theft protection by manually tripping the reset swtich. Also use a 50a maxi fuse between starter and wiring harnesss like painless wiring recommends.

Dido on the quickcar cables. Very flexible.

Okay, what part numbers or what should I look for at the local Checkers or parts store or electrical store for these?

Well, I'm a retard. Mark at MAD does NOT use 8 ga for a battery cable. It's a primary power wire hooking to the juntion block to provide a good 12 volt source.

He recomends 1/0 or similar cable for the main battery cables.

      Sorry for the confusion.

What ever you use. Always use a gromet where the wire goes through metal. It is a safety thing. I would use a good quality one. I use the good ones made by stinger they also will contract down to seal the wire.
