Minimal. One good size scrape on the back. Sucks because now I have to replace it. $500 Carbon Fiber HJC.

Glad you are ok....my brother just laid his bike down a couple of weeks ago. He was a little worse off though. Best thing both of you could have did is wear your gear.

My sister had a similar road rash on her arm, and still has the scar from it. Hers wasn't from a bike accident though, she was in the passenger seat of a car that rolled over in the summer with the windows down.

Better to replace a $500 helmet than have that happen to your skull!

Glad to see your OK. Its been stated that every rider goes down once. luckily, you can talk about it. Its awierd feeling when you dump a bike. not something I feel like doing again. I was able to fix mine relatively easy. (cut off in town doing about 35. cop didn't believe it b/c teh bike a slid so far. guess he didn't understand that plastic has a very low friction factor against pavement. )

to the statement about sportbikes going too fast, there quite a few oil leakers out there that do the same. just don't care for it when sportbikes get singled out.

Good to hear that you’re OK.

I grew up riding dirt bikes and every now and then I get the itch to buy a street bike. But something a friend told me 10 years ago still echoes in my ears. He sold his street bike and hung up the helmet because he had way too many close calls and he figured it was just a matter of time before he bought the farm. The saying that he use to tell me was "Their are 2 types of riders, those that have gone down and those that are gonna go down".

Stay safe! Too many people driving cars with distractions (cell phones, navigation systems, texting … etc)

There are a few lessons to be learned here...

-Your lower half deserves gear too
-Don't ride beyond your abilities... i.e. riding with your buddies on wet pavement going fast and GRABBING FRONT BRAKE IN A TURN!

If you are going to be riding again do yourself a favor and invest in some riding clinics and FULL gear instead of a bunch of poser cf goodies and a bike thats too much for you. You might not look as cool rolling up to starbucks but if you had done it in the first place you would still have a bike and intact body, then once you are ready for it go buy a supersport and whatever bling you want and toast your friends who never bothered to learn how to properly ride.

Please don't think i'm trying to kick you when you're down, but having ridden over half my life (over 50k street miles) and having had 2 close friends kill themselves in avoidable accidents (one on a black 03 600rr oddly enough) and a bunch more permanently ****ing up their bodies it is something I take very seriously, as should everyone else.

Read my posts again, I didn't only mention sport bikes, but all sorts of vehicles. It just happens to be the sportbikes that stick in my memory the most, as I don't come across them as often as the other @**holes in their cars, like the BMW, Audi, Toyota, etc example I previously used too.

We all know the joke about the difference between a porcupine and a BMW

The one person with the most balls (or lowest common sense) I've seen on the road was on a sport bike, doing well over 100mph on a busy highway through cars. I was doing 65 in a cube van built off a Chevy Express and he blew by me like I was standing still. To this day I'm glad I didn't need to make a lane change, as I never would have seen him coming and definitely would have killed him if we made contact.

Last month when gas prices jumped well above $4 in CA, I noticed a lot more bikes on the freeway. A lot of new riders too!

It is legal to split lanes here in CA and I always move my car over as far as I can, but still stay in my lane to give them more room to pass. I still have friends/co-workers that ride and hate to see anyone go down.

I have been down and it sucks. Best advice I can give is try a trackday. Since discovering how much more safe and fun a road coarse is, I barely street ride anymore. I actually feel like the last 6 years of street riding where a waste compared to how much fun the track is.

How did your HJC Carbon hold up? I have the same helmet but mine is the Ben Spies "ELBOZ". I really like it so far. I was just curious how it did.

Held up great considering the impact it took. No head ache or anything. I will be buying another!

sucks to hear you went down man. glad you're doin alright though.

i know that i need at least one more piece of gear and that would be riding pants. i've got the coats and gloves, etc, but the pants are what i'm lacking right now.

hope you heal quick and can find another ride soon.

      shiny side up.
