You guys all know what one of these cars cost to build so getting one insured for $50,000 to $100,000 plus is a must. They didnt have a problem with insuring the car at agreed upon value. It must be a secondary car. I myself cant see putting liability ONLY insurance on a car that cost over $50,000.
Understood, but how many times in the next 10 years do you think you will actually have to make a claim on that said insurance?
Regardless, Im glad he got it insured, and hope he gets to drive it.

no kidding... I wouldn't consider putting liability only on a $50,000 car PERIOD. If I couldn't afford insurance to cover something at that pricepoint, I would sell it and buy something that I could afford.

Gambling on 50K whenever I go out is too much for me. Especially when it only takes someone 5 minutes with a tow truck to steal a car. I know someone that had their car stolen out of a restaurant parking lot while they were eating.

Here in Los Angeles County, the thiefs see you cruising around town, and they will follow you, hoping you park in some lot for a few minutes, worst yet a restaurant. I had a few baldys follow me one time as I was heading home from cruising around. Just to be sure they were, I turned down a street in a neigborhood I know And they sure as hell followed me. They were not real close, but they were there. I was pissed than. Drove a few blocks to A Buds house who just happen to be cutting his lawn. The baldys passed by and disappeared. Could have had a gun, could have jacked me.
I always watch that rear view mirror and you guys should to while driving these Awesome JEWELS around town..

      Hit the Street

Well I took her out for a ride Sunday and all I can say is WOW what a lot of fun, I still need to do a few things but man did it run nice and this is just with me setting the timing by ear, car pulled very hard and revs quickly, the brakes need a little work with the praportioning valve adjustment (need more back brake) I also need to play with the shocks a bit but she seems pretty flat in the corners with the little bit of quick turns I made, all in all I'm very happy, car needs to go back to the shop fopr a few more little things like charge the Aircon and fix the CD player he installed.

      Smokin ride!

      Question for ya...

On those kick panels, how did you handle the part that has to be sealed that is opened to the cowl? I know on the 1st gens they use a open cowl system and unless you gooped around the metal cowl opening and the kick panel vent section the carpet would get when it rained or was washed. The water water just seep in around the vent.

Is the speaker back sitting inside the opening for the vent, if so how would that hold up to the water from the cowl or heat if the vent was turned on in heat mode?

I ask because I like the looks of your set up, and do not care for lower heat vent and if no issues from water/heat then that would be cool.

      Motown thanks,

      2bad4ya thanks
cowl is still open and unsealed to the vent area, not sure what to do there, I did clean it all out very well and made sure there was an opening for it to drain in that area, i havnt noticed any wet carpet yet. The speaker back is in the vent opening and with the Vintage air and heat unit I no longer use the vent.

hmm, earlier this morning I hopped online to look into possiblely doing a setup like yours. My only concern was the speaker exposed to elements and a leaking kickpanel.

So I think my concerns could be solved by a simple little piece of foam...

That would protect the speaker from dbri that falls into the cowl area, water, etc... and will give a seal around the vent opening that will keep water out of inside the car.

You should NEVER insure your classic car (especially one like Ricks) with a major Insurance company like AAA, State Farm, All State. They specialize in "Actual Cash Value" policies (like what you have on your daily driver). If they ask you for an appraisel (like State Farm will for their collector car insurance) what they're trying to sell you is a "Stated Value" policy. What that mean is, if you're car is appraised at $50,000...that $50K is only the threshold of what they'll insure your car for. If the car is ever stolen they will still open up the books to make their own determination of what your car is worth. If they determine that it's actually worth $60,000, they're only obligated to give you $50K. If they determine that it's worth $40K...then you get $40K. Stated Value policies are BAD news. You always want to make sure you are getting an "Agreed Value" policy NO MATTER WHAT.

I am in full agreement with you but unfortunatley I'm stuck untill February, now fortunatley I'm in very tight with my Allstate agent and we will be getting an apprazel for his file, my policy is for agreed value not actual cash value and I'm paying acordinally.

Good deal. As long as the declaration page says, "Agreed Value" I think you're OK. But yeah, come February try to apply to one of the specialty insurance companies again.

That's a sweet ride, have fun with it.
