Custom Tubs on 74 Nova

I'm thinking of making my own tubs on my nova. I saw a pic recently of a car where they just cut the tub down the middle, seperated it and put about a 4 or 5 in. peice of sheet metal between them to increase the stock tub. Has anyone done this themselves and if so do you have pics? This would keep it stock looking and also cut down on the cost. Also, to increase the tire clearance could I swap the shock mounts on the axle housing from left to right and the right to the left. This would put the shock on the inside of the leaf springs to get the clearance desired. I measured it out and I should be able to fit an 11" tire.
