      Camaro Hood Vent idea

Thought I would post these illustrations to get some feedback from everyone. We are designing some vents to fit onto 1st gen Camaro hoods. They are designed to work with stock steel hoods, our carbon fiber hoods or fiberglass hoods. You would need to cut holes in your hood to retro fit them in place, but would be functional to let air out. They would especially be good for twin turbo set ups. The would be available in carbon fiber or fiberglass and will conform to the curve of the top surface of the hood. They would screw in from the under side. We are working on some for the second gen too. I think that any of the vents we are working on would work for a variety of cars actually. At least that's my goal.

A little big, but I like them. I was thinking about using Lumina Z34 ones on the cowl hood I have for the Monte.

I like the looks of those! I have been thinking of making my 91-92 Z28 speed blisters functional. I would like to see what the bottom side looks like.

Excellent idea another would be to do vents that fit in the ice tray hoods.

I will be using this for some renderings though thanks!!!

I'm assuming you mean the SS hoods with the fake metal vents? Those don't seem to be in a strategic place to vent air out and probably wouldn't work too well as an intake unless it was a big scoop. It would be nice to have a more updated touch there, though, you're right.

I think it might look better on a non-cowl induction hood but I like it!

I like them, they're pretty good looking.

Yo Z, I think I sent you about a dozen shots of some vents that may be useful. Wasn't sure if you remembered that or not.

I agree....they might be a little to busy for a cowl hood.

Or just put louvers in the hood like Stielow did with El Mule.

"Wheel to Wheel built that from an NOS GM cowl hood. They removed the inner structure and did the louvers over the turbos going into the engine compartment instead of sticking out. They also had to add bracing and move the hood latches to the corners. It's an awesome piece."

Its kinda ironic when I talked to you a couple of weeks ago about doing a one off piece with some louvres and now all of a sudden your showing a product for market (you didnt mention that via phone) A little different than what I imagined but its a great idea as making them as inserts instead of production hoods for the individuals that already have CF

I have a customer in the Philippines of all places that just kept on me about making a hood with vents. He finally gave me a good deposit to get started. I didn't want to do a one off hood just for him, so I came up with this idea which I originally had for the 2nd gen. I did a foam mock up of a vent for a 2nd gen about 8 months ago and also did a computer model and a rapid prototype 3-D print. I figured if I created a vent that most people liked, I would make it as a retro fit for any hood. The trick will be to make a template to cut the holes (probably a router would come in handy here).

I like the idea of vents and would buy them from you if the design was a bit less 'heavy'. I'd REALLY like something like the ones on the Mule above. Possible?

I like the style of the vents, but would prefer them as low-profile as possible. Make them sit "into" the hood, instead of on top of it.

      Steeda Hood

Steeda has a cool cowl hood for the 5.0 Mustangs that has vents like these... albiet a little longer and more slender... worked great on my supercharged 93 Cobra!

Always pushing for the flat hood huh? lol

Matt, I like the vents and it would sure be nice to pull hot air out from under the hood. hmmm... I wonder how that hood with the vents would look on Penny (painted)?

Keep in mind that I don't think Matt wants to design a whole new hood but rather something that can be retrofitted to existing hoods.
