O2 sensors and ceramic coated headers

When breaking in ceramic coated headers, I've heard that it buggers up O2 sensors. Any truth to this? And if it's true, how the heck are you supposed to break in the headers without the O2 sensors in place?

Well, one thing to keep in mind is that the O2 sensors aren't used on startup and the first few minutes of running.
I don't know what the break in procedure is for the ceramic coating, so I don't know how long you need to run the engine and how hard.
If your tune is good you can run without O2 sensors, they should only be correcting any minor changes from the base maps.

So, you should be able to pull the sensors, break in the headers and then reinstall the sensors.

Yeah, I figured as much. Buy and install O2 bung plugs and heat the bad boy up. Then once it PO's the computer I'll have to re-install the O2s and drag the car down to the parts store to get the code cleared...

Ok, myth busted! I just called Jet-hot, and there is no outgasing or other problems related to their ceramic coating that will cause O2 sensors to fail. Straight plug and play.

Not to say that other brands of ceramic coatings might be a problem though...

If you break in your engine with the ceramic coated headers, expect the headers to get very dull afterwards. My Jet Hot coated Hedmans sure did.

Holly says not to break in your motor with their Ceramic coated headers or it voids the warranty. I found a set of beater headers to break in my motor.

Engine is already broken in, so no worries.

As I understand it, the ceramic coated headers must be broke in too. You start by letting the engine idle for five minutes then let it cool down completely. Repeat three or four times, increasing idle time with each stage. A couple of short drives with complete cool downs in between and you shouldn't experience dulling of the coating.
Check with your coating company for specifics.
