      Wing window elimination

      Hi guys-

First, I’m one of you (70 Camamro, FI, ZZ4, T-5 and other acronyms that mean money), but I also have a passion for MG’s- own 4.

Anyway, the stock MGB/MGC door fixturing includes a wing (vent) window, and looking at the side, clutters the look I want.

Can anyone point me to a place I can get educated on going to single piece door glass?

      wing windows

I removed the wing windows on my 62 Chevy 2 Sedan. I ordered a window channel kit from Julian's. It is a hotrod parts company. In order to remove the wing window, you have to have a channel for the front of the new window. I also used a power window kit from Electralife, I moved my dash back and wrapped it into the doors and didn't have room for the window crank mechanism.

I made a window template out of 1/4 inch high density partical board or something similar. Close the door and start creating a window out of card board. After you get a cardboard template made, transfer to the wood. Finish fitting the wood template, the bottom of the window should be about 1.5 inches below the window trim.

Once you have the wooden window template made, you can start setting up the new front window channel. You'll have to do some fabricating to locate the channel in place. It wasn't too difficult in my Chevy 2. The kit comes with some brackets. The channel is 5/8" wide so you can order window felt channel to glue inside of the new channel. I used a urethane window sealant.

Any good automotive glass shop should be able to cut the new side glass for you as long as it is flat. I had mine done by Vintage Glass.

If your car is like mine, you'll have to straighten out the door sheet metal where the wing window was to match the rest of the opening inside and out. You will then have to get a custom window felts and seals. You can order this in bulk lengths. If you need a name for a company, I can try and find the info for you.

This was a short explination but it took me 10 hours to do this and my car was already completely torn apart. Here's a picture of my car. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

      wing windows

I assume you are asking about the front of my Nova. The hood is fiberglass but the rest is all steel. I made the front spoiler out of steel, cut down the bumpers and blended them into the body, and re-arched the front fender opening to clear the tires, and rolled the lips tight. Here's a link to my web site. Go to the body section and then click on the word Spoiler and there is a series of build pictures. There should also be a 24 page article with a step by step description of the build. The should also be an article for the fender lip re-arching. If you can't find them, let me know.

It's juliano's, I wrote the wrong name earlier. They also have power window kits.
