engine removal for DSE upper and lower control arms??

Just bought the new DSE speed kit 3, new p/s pump, hoses and complete front BAER track kit... When talking to the techs at DSE, they said the motor had to be pulled so the upper control arms can be located / welded... WTF??? Any experience with the DSE products in question??? Did you guys pull the motor or can you get around that step??

That step is needed because you have to cut off the original stock upper control arm/shock mount, and then bolt on their bracket supplied to the subframe (where your engine mounts are or right around there). You then mark the part where the bracket is on your frame.

After removing the bracket you need to cut into the frame where the markings are after removing the bracket.

The bracket is key because it will locate where you need to weld up the new upper control arm mounts after bolting it up to the bracket.

      Hope this helps.

If you are doing the full DSE coilover conversion then yes (what 72novass said). If you are only changing the arms themselves (not doing the full DSE coil over conversion) then no you don't. What parts did you get (which arms), what front coils/shocks are you using?

Just installed mine. If you did get speed kit 3 then as stated above the motor has to come out. Here is a pic to see how it gets mocked up.

Just wait until you realize that you can't adjust the coil overs without completely removing them from the car! Then you will be really happy!

      Thanks, for the quick replies...

I spoke with DSE about coil-over adjustment issues.. They said it is true but they recomend to assemble without locking down the nuts on the ball joints 100%. Finish assembly, lower car, check ride height, measure for required height, diassemble, call DSE for exact amount of turns on the coilover adjusters to acheive the required height. ( they know exactly how much each quarter turn raises or lowers the car ) then reassemble and torque everything ... oh well at least my shop has A/C.....time to get to work.....
