      Where to run wires?

I am getting ready to install my Rock Valley Tank and was wondering where you guys ran your fuel pump wires? I assume up through the trunk floor and then through the passenger compartment, any tips or tricks you could share?

      Thanks,

      Bruce

i ran mine along the taillight harness and drilled a small hole in the back left corner to drop the wires down.

Thanks, would you happen to know how much current a FI fuel pump pulls? I am trying to get the proper gauge wire but would prefer not to have either to small or large of a gauge of wire running through the car.

      Thanks,

I'd look to see where the wire runs for the gauge. You might be able to run the power wire through the same hole.

Now, please excuse the partial hijack, but I've got a question regarding power to the fuel pump as well and I'd like to get some opinions.

I am going to mount the battery in the trunk, and was wondering how most people ran their relay. I mean, it makes sense to run the power to the relay, with the relay in the trunk, and then send the power to the pump.
However, most stock setups have the battery up front, so the relay is on the firewall.

Has anyone mounted the relay next to or near the battery to shorten the run?

Bruce This is the wire harness I am using in a 79 TA with the In-Tanks fuel pump, modified for the79 TA. It uses Wearther pack plugs so modifing it to the TA is easy. the power wire is 10 gague.

10 gauge, that is huge! My leads are at most, 14 gauge. The draw should not be that much if it a runs a return line as the pump is running constantly. Start-up current is what kills you.

Guys....check out my build thread. I just finished up exactly what you are looking for last month. You want to run a switched circuit with your tail light harness to the relay in the trunk. I mounted mine to the turnk latch housing and ran the wiring through the sender hole with grommet and on top of the tank. Then you can wire your relay directly off the battery using a circuit breaker and ground it to the battery. Should be a 30 amp breaker. Jegs has a nice set up that is pretty enexspesive. 12 to 14 gauge on pump wires.. 16 gauge on the ground and switched power will work. Pictures in my thread.
