HPDE and Time Trials at Summit Point, April 19

The Eastern Motor Racing Association (EMRA) - http://www.emraracing.org/index.html - is putting on a High Performance Driver Education school and a Time Trials event at Summit Point - http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/ - Saturday, April 19th.

There are still slots available for each. For the HPDE you do not need to have any prior experience. It is a fully instructed driving school.

I'll be there in my '65 Mustang fastback, along with one other vintage Mustang. It would be great to see some more vintage cars out there!

If you not familiar with Summit Point, it is in West Virginia, about 1-1/4 hours from Washington, DC.

So how did it go? I'm transititioning my car from street/strip to pro-touring so I can spend some time playing there. I live about 3 miles away from Summit Point Raceway and can hear them run all the time. In fact, there are some cars going around the track right this minute.

I actually missed the EMRA event. I had my car apart and couldn't get it back together in time. I did how ever get out there the next week and had a great time. I try to get out to Summit Point 2-3 times a year.

It would be great to see some other Pro-Touring muscle cars out there. I've been trying to drum up some interest in getting a vintage track day set up, but I haven't gotten much of a response.

Well, I promise you as soon as my Camaro is finished, I will be there. I have some friends that work there, and I'll be doing some of the classes when the car is done.

I did go to one of the Car Guys events last fall, although without the Camaro. I met some of the guys there, and even the guy in charge let me take my '04 Suburban 2500 around the wet skidpad before I left. He even gave me pointers and drove my Suburban around it too. That was fun, and I can't wait to do that kind of stuff in the Camaro.

Let me know what other events you're going to, and I'll try to go and look you up.

      Wayne,

How's your car coming together? We're looking at trying to put some vintage Mustangs/Cougars out on Summit Point Sept. 12th - http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/ - We'd love it if you could join us.

Summit Point runs High Performance Driving Events (HPDE's) once or twice a month. The events are called FATT (Friday At The Track). FATT is a fully instructed High Performance Driving School. You do not need to have any prior track time to attend. You do not need a roll bar or a racing harness, your car just needs to be solid and sound. If you've got questions, post them here.

Let's see if we can drum up some interest and get some vintage iron out to the track.

I've never been to Summit Point and might be interested. How much is the FATT event?

The FATT schools are $225 per day. It's well worth the money.

      Hey Tim,

I definitely want to do some FATT events when the car is done. Right now, the body is about to go on a rotisserie and then be taken to get blasted. I figure it'll be off the road for about 1.5-2 years, unless we win the lottery or something, then a bit less. It's been slow going right now because our other house is still on the market, and we've been doing 2 mortgage payments for a while, and it's been killing us! Hopefully, the other house will sell soon and we can get back to normal.

I'd still like to come to the FATT in September though, and at least watch. Are there any other events there that you attend?
