      C5 rear caliper questions

Ok, I'm ready to buy the stuff I need to finish this deal. I have the rotors, calipers, pads and assorted clips for the pads (all new GM stuff). Going to put on my 70 GTO 10 bolt housing.

My main question is, will I be able to use the C5 calipers or do need to change them out for the LS1 stuff? If I can use them, does anyone know the part numbers for the caliper saddle thing?

I'm sure i'll have many more questions but this will get me headed in the right direction. Thanks

I can't seem to find my notes right now but try the search, there has been several discussions on the C5 brakes including part numbers and mods needed. The 93-97 f body rear is easier, cheaper and about the same as far as performance.

have searched and can find alot of info on the front stuff and some on the rear LS1 swap but nothing for the rear C5. I just hate to go to the dealer and buy the backing plates with drum e-brake and caliper abutments for a C5 only to find they won't work. Otherwise looks like i scrap the C5 stuff i have and buy all the LS1 stuff and start over. either way it's going to cost. I'm hopeing someone can tell me the C5 stuff will work if i buy the two missing parts. Thanks for the respone.

It was my understanding that C5 backing plate and caliper brakets wont fit on an early rear and it woulf have to be redrilled. Can anyone confirm this? The only thing I could find was the LS1 schematic. I'll keep looking.

thanks for looking, i'm going to go by the dealer today to see how much these two missing parts might cost. if they are not to bad i'll buy one side and give it shot. after that i can post and we will know for sure what it takes.

thanks for the info. just came from the dealer. i thought we had to use C5 park brake stuff, you can't, it's all part of the rear spindle assy. i'm guessing i have to use LS1 rear park brake backing plates with C5 caliper abutments bolted to them? any other ideas before i order this stuff?

Ordered everything from GM parts direct. Got the LS1 backing plates (loaded), LS1 park brake cables and hoses along with the C5 caliper brackets. Total was around $340.00 so if it works i'll have $450.00 to $500.00 into the rear disc deal. keeping my fingers crossed. if it doesn't work i'll buy LS1 calipers, brackets and rotors.

Take a look at my website.

The C5 abutments won't work with the LS1 backing plates.
