Looking for info (Bad Bascom)
I am looking for info on a 1963 Chevy II Nova called Bad Bascom. The car was built by Bill Thomas in, I think late 62 or early 63 (Hot Rod article is 7/63).
I am trying to find out if the car had every been raced, if so, how did it do? It is my understanding that it was built to compete in Europe. Or maybe that was just the Chevy II's with the injected corvette 327s, I am not sure.
In the Hot Rod article it mentions that Bill Thomas used spindles off of a full size car, does anyone know which car they were off of? Also I would like to know how he shortened the upper A-arm 7/16".
From the picture in the article it looks as if the lower ball joint is mounted upside down, which seems un-safe to me. Are there any problems with this type of mounting?
Any other information on this car would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Wow, no responses. Ok next question, has anyone even heard of this car?
Some info on it:
63 Chevy 2 Nova (SS I think)
63 vette FI motor, dynod at 413hp
motor set back 8 inches
63 vette IRS
front suspension is:
springs from a full size car with Air
spindles from full size car etc
Basically I would like to see if I can make a stock subframe Chevy 2 work well. I already have a Chevy 2 with an Alston sub, I would just like to compare the 2...

Gonzo,
I'm familair with the car but don't know anything about it beyond the 1-2 copies of magazine articles I have.
Thomas was also responsible for building the 3 fastback 63 Nova's that used fiberglass fastback roofs on convertible bodies for road racing. I think his work on Bascome led to the fastback project. When Chevy pulled the plug on factory sponsored racing, they took all the drivetrain components back but Thomas kept the fastbacks. All were used as drag cars and I think only one is left. Email me at [email protected] and I'll see if I can dig up the articles on Bascome.

Whew
Whew, I thought I might be the only one who had heard of this car. Apparently the motors GM had shipped to Bill Thomas for the fastback road racing project were the "Mystery Motors" that wound up going to Smokey Yunick. Well according to this link anyway:
