Poncho steering gearbox questions?
I have a 71 Lemans (hence the screen name) that I need to replace the steering gearbox on. It's a 350 car with power steering. At the auto parts store the price for the 71 lemans gearbox and the 71 GTO gearbox are the same. The Lemans box is 3.75 to 4 lock to lock, and the GTO is 2.5 to 3 lock to lock. My question is there any reason I can't just drop the GTO box in? Also please note I would ask on the PY forums but I can't seem to log on. Thanks for any replys.

Shouldn't be any reason as most all GM cars from the era ran the 800 series box.

One thing you have to watch out for in remaned parts is any part matching a general description can end up in any box under any part number.... If you are specificly looking for a certain box make sure you check that it is exactly (lock to lock )what you are after before you lay down the cash...... Not all rebuilders do this but some do.
Nothing says "I built this" better than tool marks and dykem blue..
