      Wayne Due's IRS

Hey guys I wanted to know what you think. I am looking into buying a Wayne Due front frame and I saw i can get the IRS kit a little cheaper if i buy them at the same time. What do you guys know about this vette suspension can it handle 700-800 rear wheel hp and how is traction from a stop. All my buddies go 1/4 mile racing so I know Ill be tagging along once in a while. With this rear will i be able to hook up if not can it be upgraded to do so. Last does anyone know the difference in price between the c4 and c5 frames over at Wyanes.

      thanks

I wouldn't waste it if your just going drag racing. You'd have to spend a bunch to make em strong enough. If you peek around the guys in the pits dragin vettes with that much HP and you'll probably notice a couple IRS's swapped out for straight axles. If you where a serious dual function racer than I can see it worth it. recipe: Viper Dana 44, moly axles and joints.

A Viper Dana 44 and a Corvette Dana 44 are basically the same thing.
My 10sec ZR-1 wasn't very hard on parts at all.

70ptta, are you building a 70? Actually the Viper has a couple more reinforcing ribs and there are more gear sets availible for it. ZR1's a different monster, those are hard to find now right? Hey Hoop, you still have that? The C5 frame is still being "refined" but its not much more.

ZR1 is just a Dana 44. nothing different then a 6 speed LT1 coupe in those years. they can handle some power and hook amazingly well. there is a guy on the dragraceresults board running 10.20s every weekend with one. We used to have a 8 second street racer here in town. Of coarse, this is coming from a guy running a 12 bolt with 900hp. That is supposed to break isn;t it? Not in 5 years!
We put a IRS in Prodigy, not worried about breaking it

I think it's the half shafts that have the problem with an 800hp 6000rpm launch on 10.5" slicks...............not so much the center.

Danny's Driveshafts make yokes and driveshafts for the corvette rear ends if you are able to break the original ones.
      I'd give it a try.

And I actually have a dana 44 for my car.

      Irs

I've hated vettes with IRS, but for some reason I like the idea of putting one in my 68, I think there was one in a magazine not long ago,
anyone remember the issue or which one,

What does it intale to do this, and what are used rears going for?

I think or wonder how would the ride and handeling be, and how hard can you beat on it,

Does Wayne sell a bolt in unit for 68's?? Steve

yes he does, well I think j/k give him a call. You can beat on them real hard but if your just building a strip car I don't see the point...well justify its cost imho. A dual purpose car yes. I rode in a Newman car and it was better than stock.

I looked at the WEB site,

I have a dual purpose car, the Nova, down the strip, and on the street, no handeling, no problem, hahaha,

Now the Camaro, I'm might do a strip run once or twice, just to see how it goes, but when I looked at his web site, it looks to be alot of cutting and welding and I don't know if I want to start that at the stage I'm in, we'll see,

What are complete rears going for????

      Whats a Newman car???

The Lt1 ZF6 and ZR1 diffs are really the same. If you're really serious about drag racing a C4 IRS http://www.whiteracingproducts.com/ did have some billet rear knuckles.

      Steve,
The article is in the March '05 Car Craft. It's a '67 with Wayne's IRS.
Real nice job. I'm currently setting up two '69s.

hu im mistaken I thought the Z' stuff was beefed up. Thers a company named Paul Newmans(not the same as the actor/dressing guy?) that has retrofit kits for tri - fives. It was a 56 2door. Nicely done. You can find IRS's on ebay anywhere from $400- $700. Last time I looked anyways.

Yep it is the same guy. He also used to race until a couple years ago.

70PTTA If you run a rear IFS it will limit your tire size to 315's... ok so im told, but im sure someone will tell me otherwise?

Steve, I picked up a Dana 36, the lighter duty C4 rear, for $500 including the front suspension, but that was a deal. Dana 44s are the heavy duty units (kind of like 10 bolt and 12 bolts) and came in manual shift and ZR1 (which were 6 speed) C4s. They sell in the mid teen to high teens. I took a ride in a ProChared 94 Vette making 500 RWHP with a Dana 36 that was staying together, but he was not dead hooking at the dragstrip either. Michael's car has a 36 in it right now because i refuse to pay up for a 44 until I absolutly have to.
