      moving from flux to gas...

I have been using .030 flux for about 6 months now. I'm no pro, but I feel like I am getting more comfortable with welding, and I'm ready to start using gas. I have the guages and hook-ups with my current welder. What now???

I do need to reverse the polarity of the ground and the wire feed correct?

Now, what recomendations do you guys have for sheet metal?
What pressure do I set the gas to?

Size of wire, gas mix, any other extra safety precautions or things I need to take into account when using gas?

      Thanks,
      mcw

good timing. What size gas cylinders should the weekend fabricator use? I don't want something huge and cumbersome to move around the shop, but you also don't want to have to be exchanging tanks every weekend either.

Just see what your welding shop has to offer on tanks.

Read you welders user manual too.

Yes, reverse the polarity for use with shielding gas.

Very good call - when I switched from flux to gas it was a huge difference! You will love the much cleaner welds.
