What would it take for 550hp out of a 396 BB?
Ive got a friend with a 55 chevy.. that has a 396/375hp block with oval port heads (oe) Headers(still no carb or intake) Compression is unknown.. but does have a good lump to it!
What combo of parts would it take to make 550hp with this engine?

Punch it out .060 over. Closed Chamber Oval Port Heads, heavily ported. 9.5:1 Compression. Crane Cams Mechanical Cam, don't now the part number but it has .567 lift intake .590 exhaust 248/258 degrees duration @.050 108 Lobe Center. Victor Jr. Manifold, 850 Double Pumper from Holley. Headers must have a minimum 2" primary. I ran this combo in a full body 69 Camaro with TH400 and 3.31 gears in the rear. Drove it on Pump - ran 11.78 at 114mph all day long. This is tried and true old school horsepower.
