      1967 Firebird road race build

Its been a while since i have been able to post a new project. I sold my 68 camaro about 5 years ago and ive wanted to get something else to work on ever since. I picked this car up for $3500 last year. it was pretty rough. wasnt that rusty but somebody beat this thing up pretty good. It was sitting for 10 years in the same spot before i saved it. So far ive done new quarters, outers, rear body, deck lid, door skins, fenders and hood and shaved the drip rails. It came with a small block chevy so im gonna rock that for now with a super t10 4 speed. Suspension will be ride tech front and rear. heres where im at so far.

      Plans:
      ridetech suspension
      mini tub
      ccw wheels?
      9 inch rear
      c5 brakes
      roll cage
      front strut bars

Got some more work done. Finished bondo work and primed the roof. Installed the front strut bars and smoothed the fire wall too. I ordered my ridetech suspension so that should be here this week. Next up is pick my rear end length and buy my wheels.

My dad taught me body work and paint growing up. I was going to go into the body work feild but my dad told me to stay out of it so I've been working for geico as an auto damage adjuster for a bit over 6 years now.

I'm excited to see what someone with your bodywork and paint skills can do with a road racing car from the glory days of Trans Am.

      Great project!

Makin progress. frame is painted and ridetech suspension installed. Im ordering Forgelines this week and ive been trying to nail my backspace so i borrowed my dads rear wheels from his 68 camaro to mock up on the front. wheels will be here in a month so i need to finish the mini tubs and get the underneath of the car cleaned and painted. the fenders are aftermarket and fit just horrible. the gaps are bad and the body lines dont line up. lots of cutting ahead to make them fit. heres how she sits right now.

Haven't gotten a lot done because ive been doing side jobs but here is some progress as well as the new wheels. 18x11 rear and 18x9.5 forgeline GZ3. 275's up front and 315s in the back. also finished smoothing and painting the firewall.

It looks like chassis works forward down bars with subframe Gemini joints.

Great body work, it's looking cool.

Yup. Chassis works down bars. They are pretty neat. The Gemini connectors are pretty slick.

      I'll be following along.

Are you going with power or manual brakes? I've been thinking about installing the same downbars in my Firebird, but I'm a bit concerned about the clearance between the driver side down bar and the brake booster (currently have 9" dual booster on mine).

I plan on going power brakes. I have the booster but haven't tried fitting it yet. If it doesn't fit I could always notch the bar a bit. I'll find out soon enough.

Its been a while since ive posted any updates. ive made some progress all though not as much as id like. I needed a break from the car for a bit. most of the body work is done and in primer. Rear suspension is in. I picked up a moser 9 inch as well as a 6.0 LS motor and a six speed. Hoping to have the motor in the car in a few weeks for mock up. I have all the front sheet metal on the car now so im thinking im going to get creative and give the car a bit of a face lift. I never liked the big chrome front bumper hanging off the front of the car. im going to try to fabricate some fort of front bumper/grille to look like the traditional firebird front but much more sleeker. we will see...
