This is a perfect time to always make sure that you get an email, fax or some other type of written agreement with a description of the car (VIN number) you have agreed to purchase that says that the seller agree's to sell you (your name and location) the car at a stated price BEFORE you send a deposit.

Include in the agreement the sellers acceptance of the deposit constitutes a binding sale and you the buyer has X amount of time to make full payment and/or pickup the car in person or via shipping.

Without that, the seller could say you just sent him money because he was a nice guy instead of the true reason you sent the seller money. You never know anymore when you send money with no written agreement.

If you make your deposit over $500.00 in most states and the seller tries to screw you, the seller may be commiting Felony Fraud. $500.00 in most states is the dollar amount the constitutes Felony fraud (criminal charge) versuse a civil charge. ALWAYS get a written agreement of some type before sending a deposit. A seller's tune will quickly change if and when he finds out the you have/will file Felony fraud charges. This is a criminal charge, not a civil charge. Big difference!
