69 camaro - 0 offset? HELP

Ok, I've tried searching, but with no luck. My brother in law just bought some 17x8 Torque Thrust M's, and as part of the deal, he can choose between 235/45's or 245/40's... He wants to know which tire to run, but what I'm concerned about is the offset of the wheels: they say 0 mm offest. Does anyone know if these wheels will fit anywhere close to right? And which tires to run if they will?




Car is apart at the moment at the body shop, can't go and measure unfortunately. Thanks for the help.

8" wheel with 0mm offset means 4.5" backspacing. Usually people run 4.75" to 5.00" backspacing on that width wheel. I'd worry about those wheels hitting the lips of the fenders, they will stick out more than normal.

245s will fit fine.

An 8" wide wheel actually measures 9" bead-to-bead. Therefore, a zero offset 17x8" wheel will have 4.5" backspace. I have tried a 17x8" 4.5BS wheel with a 245-45-17 tire on my lowered '69 and the tire rubbed on the driver's side when the wheel was turned full lock to the right. Nine Ball is right, you're better off with a 4.75" backspace, but you might be able to get away with it if you're close to stock ride height.

Just as another point of reference, I run a 15x8" 4.5BS wheel with a 235-60-15 tire on the same car with no rubbing. Lots of negative camber and button head screws for the wheelwell trim made this combo work.

Nope. That's all wrong.

8" wheel measures 9" overall, and a 0 offset dictates that the backspace is right down the center of the wheel, in this case 4.5". In your case then, I would strongly suggest a 235 wide over the 245 tire as it's already too close to the outer fender by about .25" of what we would normally build, which is a 4.75" backspace. I hope his car is not lowered much.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the responses. The car is basically stock at this point (not lowered). What are the odds of having to roll the fenders because the wheels stick out that extra quarter inch? Is that just one of those things we'll have to wait and see when we can bolt the wheels to the car?

I wouldnt bother with them rims get the right backspacing first, Rolling the lips wont help.


Just a thought you could sell them to someone with a c3 vette they would fit perfect. gl

I just bought 2 wheels for the front 18x8 w a 4.5 bs and they rub a little, can I change out my fender bolts. I have stock subframe and ride height....any suggestions

did you get the nitrous, or the legend? There are other offsets available in the Legend... 8" with a 5" backspace for example.

Are you running 245's or 235's. The skinnier tire will be some help too.
Also, you could remove the fender bolts for a button head, or take it off completely, until you decide to run a different wheel or tire up front.

I got the nitrous with the 4.50 backspace. I have 225's on them. Im gonna try the bolt change...where do you get them..??

Yes, the more negative camber you run, the more you're going to move the top of the tire away from the fender.

I run 17x8" with 4.5" bs on all fours and only have a little frame rub at full lock.

Fender rub does not exist.
