      8.2" 10 bolt missing a few ring gear teeth...

      So I just had my rearend cover off today to fix an oil leak that popped up last weekend. The cover started to leak pretty bad and left a nice coating of gear oil on the back of my car. I figured I'd get a new aluminum diff cover while I had it off. This rearend is really a temporary setup until I get the 9" removed from my other car and swapped in, but I've been a little lazy on that.

      Anyways, I took the cover off today and found a few teeth broken off the ring gear and sitting at the bottom of the housing. This is a 1st gen Camaro 10 bolt (8.2) that has been gone-through recently and has a new Eaton Posi, 4.11 gears, etc.

      I thought the gears were a quality brand, but I'm thinking this is a result of my 600 hp and 570 lb/ft of torque giving that rearend a beating. It's only be driven on street tires (335/30/18's right now), and I thought the tires would be the first to give as they spin like crazy in 1st and 2nd gears. I have not been doing any hard launches or drag racing with this rearend out of fear of it breaking.

      So I guess my question is: has anyone seen this happen, and why? And do you think it will destroy itself if I drive it for a month or two while I get this 9" ready?

      Are you kidding Andy ??

      It happens more than you would ever want to hear about. The biggest reason for the 8.2's failure is the pinion shaft diameter and ring gear size... next would be the axles.

      Will you destroy it by driving it ?? Yup... I am surprised it lasted as long as it did with the power you are putting down. Seriously... I wouldnt drive it... at all... because when it does go... your gonna be towing it where ever you need to be.

      The only reason you have not broken it before this... is because of the wheel spin. If you even hooked that thing up once... even just a little... you would have posted this much earlier.

      I agree, I blew up my first 8.2 with my 250 6 cyl. Sure it had an Offy intake and a 650 DP but it went nasty and took out my trans soon after. Don't drive it. Hate to see you loose that T56.
