I have one that I made with a few different size center pieces I also drilled and pressed .25 balls into the center of the bolts because the tool tends to want walk out when you expanded it. The balls in the ends keep it right between the centers of the ball joints.

GM used to have a Kent Moore tool like this in the tool catalog.
Wish I could still get one.
Anybody know where to get one ?

I'd be interested in making one if you could post the parts. I've been planning on buying one when I came across the right tool. The old pickle fork method isn't exactly gentle.

A fine-thread will yeild more axial force. Lubricating the threads with a moly grease or an oil/graphite mix will also help significantly.

I machined a dish in each end to keep it centered.

I bought a similar one from Mark at SC&C. "Howe ball joint separator" $19. Great guy to deal with and SC&C advertises here.

x2. This is a super handy tool if you're constantly around with your springs.
