      Any Lq9 N/A builds?

I know that 408ci and turbo builds are all the rage now for the iron 6.0l blocks, but anybody doing a somewhat stock swap (stock bore, crank, rods)? If so any proven power numbers? Maybe even some pics? I know that there was a artical a while ago in Car Craft, But they (in my opinion) ruined it by mounting a carb. Doing my own swap and I need inspiration!!!

There are plenty of NA builds for the LQ9s. The hot setup is to use the L92 heads/ L76 intake. Do not use the CNC ported ones from GM. The runner volume is much too large for a 6.0. There are plenty of ported L92 heads that would work well on a 6.0 though. Straight out of the box they work well. If budget is a concern, go with stock L92 heads and a complete L76 intake. This will prove to be a great top end. You will have to run throttle by wire though as the throttle body is only motor driven. All headers that would have fit the LQ9 will fit with these heads.

Cams are everywhere. What type of power band do you want? All around, low end, high end?

If budget is even tighter, just use the heads you have. The 317 head which should be on that motor are nothing but lower compression LS6 heads. Throw yourself a good cam in there and put an LS6 intake on the thing. You can spin it to 6200rpm with the right cam. Cam choices are the same basically is they would be with the L92/L76 combo.

Thanks for the eye candy...I only wish my wallet was that big. Maybe I can pick your brain a little? I would like to keep the heads and bottom end stock and add a big cam with a lopey but streetable idle. I think a high-revving cam is to scary for me with stock internals, so maybe an 1200-5800rpm cam? Any recommendations? I know nothing about cams.. Its going into my 1970 chevelle with a t56 (if I can find one) Also why use the Drive By Wire?

With the Gen 4 engines all the throttle bodies are drive by wire only. The L92/L76 setup is a Gen 4 set up. A great deal of the Gen 4 pieces will fit Gen 3 engines such as the LQ9. The L92 engine is the replacement for the LQ9. If you keep a Gen 3 intake which holds a three bolt throttle body, you can run throttle by wire or cable. It's your choice.

For a cam, a 228/232 on a 114+4 LSA would do well. It's a simple tried and true grind. You could go with a 112+4 LSA for a little more lope at idle. Spinning this cam to 6k is easy and the bottom end will handle it fine. The truck intake may limit it a little but you can keep it for now and switch to a car intake later if you want.

For a lower power band that still lopes, try 224/228 on a 112+4 LSA. I think you'd be happier with the 228/232 though. It's great all around and pulls like a demon to red line. The LQ9 can handle the RPMs. It's the same internally as an LS. From the factory, the cam and intake set the red line for the truck engines not the bottom end. Once you get rid of the stock cam, you can go higher to the point of letting the bottom end limit red line. 6k is safe. I'll be spinning a 5.3 to 6200 rpms. The difference between a 5.3 and 6.0 is pistons and cylinder heads, that is it.

I rebuilt an LQ4 for my 81z. It's somewhat of a budget build. Here's the parts breakdown:

      01 LQ4 standard bore
Sealed power hypereutectics with teflon coated skirts
      Stock crank and rods
      Rollmaster billet chain
      TSP ported oil pump
Arp main studs and rod bolts
      Crane 228/232 .600/.600 112
      Crane dual springs
Stock valved 317 heads milled .020

I have it carbed right now as I bought it as a rebuildable long block core. So far I don't have any dyno numbers but I'd bet money I'm at 500 flywheel. I've played with 420rwhp ls1 camaros and I do quite well.
