      Cooling Line question

Hey Guys this might seem like a silly question but can you run braided stainless steel hoses in place of the factory hard lines for your trans cooler or are the trans cooling lines high pressure?

Yes, good quality SS braided line, properly fitted with matching connectors will work fine. I use them for that exact application.

Yep, sure can! Just need to get the correct AN fittings for the trans and radiator.

I have a question about cooler lines that I hope you guys can answer. It has to do w/ stainless lines, the lines on the car are 5/16 and they run to the radiator. What I wanna do is install an auxilarly cooler but using nice AN fittings. My problem is I can't find any AN fittings to match my up w/ 5/16 lines. Only thing I can find is 5AN but there doesn't seem to be any fittings availible except for tube nuts and sleeves. Anyone else having trouble w/ 5/16 lines to some sort of AN fittings. I would like to be able to do both 4AN and 6AN.
      Help!!!!

I guess there is no answer when you use 5/16 line. It just that 5/16 line seems to be standard for transmission cooler lines, so what do you guys do for custom plumbing??? Any one use AN fittings?

-5 is few and far between since it is used only for oxygen systems in aircraft. Since it is a dedicated size it can't be mistakenly mixed with something else during assembly.

There are adapters available to use -6 in GM transmission cooler lines, which is what is needed since all AN hose end fittings neck down much smaller than the tube/hose size they are fitted to. For example, a -6 standard hose end (red/blue) will neck down to about 0.250". A -5 would be even smaller.

Not sure about the 5/16, but if you convert to 3/8, you can go with any assortment of -6AN. I don't see how you can do this in one step though...

I'm running a cooler with 1/2" NPT to -8 adapters routed to -8 hose (which is 3/8" I.D.) The -8 stuff runs along the front of the core support to 90 degree -8 fittings (-6 90's don't flow very well) Then I step that down to -6 that runs straight back to the trans. -6 hose is 5/16" I.D.
