      I need some simple help

I'm looking at getting two new rear wheels for my car. Right now the rear has 15x7 with 3.5 inchs of backspace. I want a 8 inch wide wheel in the rear, but there is no room for the wheel to go towards the fender lip and there is two inches of room between the widest part of the tire and the inner fender lip. Am I right to think a 15x8 with 4.5 inches of backspace will work perfect?

sounds right to me. your increasing the backspace an inch to make up for the 1" in width. if you left the backspace at 3.5 and went with the 8" rim, it would push the lip out an extra inch.

Do you have drum or disc brakes in the back?

Even though your fenders have the room, you will want to 2x check that the brake caliper has the room too (if you have disc brakes in the back).

I just went thru the same issue with my 64 C10 truck. With 12" rotors on a 15x8 rally wheel, 4" b.s. worked for me. I wanted 4.5" b.s., but the caliper interfered with the back section of the rim.

Last time I checked stock 15 x 8 ralleys will not fit that body. I remember having to jack them up real high in the rear. Your gonna need more back space. 5 -5 1/4"

Really? But if I have two inches of space between the widest part of the tire and the inner fender( b in the picture) why cant the 15x8 with 4.5 inches of backspace work? What am I missing?

What size tire Andrew. I had 275/60 then tried 255/60's. I had problems with my 69 and the rims I had. Even when I rolled the lip it still hit the well above it on one side. Pretty bad too.

Let me try again on my other car. I'll get some pictures this weekend. Unless you are puing the trigger this week.

Well the plan was to roll with my 225/70's for a few more weeks. There is still some good rubber left on them. The next tire I would step up to would probly be a 245 inless I could fit a 255. Maby I should get some pictures up what I see in my inner fender and post them up and we can talk about it.

You know I have some 245's on 15x8's. I'll throw them on there and take pictures. I assumed you were going 275's. I will post them Sunday night.

How is your car otherwise? I finally sold my white one.
