      Corvette C4 I-beam material

      Hi,
To get the ride height I am looking for I might need to have the I-beam/batwing on my Dana44 corvette C4 rearend shortened.
I talked to a welder today and he said that it shouldnt be a problem if he knew what kind of aluminum it was (he told me some different numbers).

      Anyone know?

surprised no one knows. I dont... BUT if push comes to shove, look up laboratory testing in your yellow pages and find a local metallurgy testing facility... I think my local place wanted $150-$350 to verify some SS for me.

might also try some of the vette forums or even ask ktech (I know they are all about the c5/c6 but they all seem super willing to help)

It surprises me as well, but I guess nobody here have welded or shortened it. I do have a vette book somewhere so it might be written there.
Anyhow I just figured out that I dont need to shorten it anyway. To me the angles looked excessive at the ride height I want but I put on the vette fiberglass spring and it gives me a ride height of just one inch more than I need and thats with an empty car so I guess its all ok.

      thanks!
