      Th350

Hello all, I am new here and am very novice about performance. I recently was given a 76 chevell malibu. I have read that the stock hp of this vehical was around 165 with a factory th350. I was hoping to swap the motor from my 80 chevy c10 into it. The truck was bought from a street runner whom put alot into the truck. It has a 4 bar quadra jet...Yeah I know... mounted on a edelbrock preformer intake feeding a 350 with wide angle headers. Will this motor mount up to the th350? and if so will the torqe conveter handle the output of the motor? Thanks

Hey, the turbo 350 should bolt up just fine to the engine. As far as the torque converter, it depends on how much torque the engine produces. A stock turbo 350 convertor should handle up to 300 foot pounds of torque without any problems. As for the stall in the Malibu, it is probably set at around 1400 to 1500 rpm. So without knowing more details on the C10 engine i cannot tell you if this is a good combination or not. Hope this helps! Steven

Thanks for the reply! Well I was told that the motor was around 300 hp, If that helps. All I can realy say is that it will get up an move that old truck. What info can gather to help my problem? Or would I be better off just having the tranny opened up and put a new converter in? Again, thanks for the reply.

Ok, I did some more reading and It looks like changing the converter is the way to go! My last question on this is can I oversize the converter?

Hey, if the transmission worked fine before i would just leave it alone...unless you just want it rebuilt. As for the convertor you can replace it if you want a higher stall, otherwise i would just install the whole setup the way it is and see how it does. Finally, im sorry but i dont quite understand your last question...if by oversize you mean changing the stall speed then yes...otherwise i dont understand. Sorry!

Yeah, sorry...I ment raise the stall speed to high. Would I be risking a blown motor? I talked to a trans shop in the area and they need the cam size and rear end ratio. I was thinking that I could get the cam duration by inserting a long stem dial ind. into the spark plug hole. I have no Idea if that will work or not.
