      68 Camaro Steering box options for poor guy?

      Hey all,
      Have been researching a bit on PS gear boxes, and I know there are several "superior" available boxes for my car.

      What would be the best less costly option?
      1) Go to J/Y and hope to find a quick ratio box from a Z/28 or TA?
      2) Buy a rebuilt AC Delco box from Rock Auto, spec'd for handling package, 2.5 turns lock to lock, for about $227?
      3) Other options???? Better place to buy a rebuilt unit? Better application for rebuilt unit?

      You guys seem so knowledgable about this stuff, I thought I would just ask the question. Maybe there are some of you out there that have found a great plentiful junkyard solution, or another great supplier of rebuilt?

      I was looking around at Advance (partsamerica.com) and they have 2 reman steering boxes for the 67-9 camaro listed from Cardone, 1 says it has a 2 1/2 to 3 turn L-L. Part number is 276509 and is $132, plus my buddy works there just to score a discount so that helps too.

      Does that sound like something that would work well? I wouldn't have to worry about different couplers, and adapters to go from the metric line fittings on the IROC box to old school camaro PS lines.

      Thoughts?

      Those will have a fast ratio, but will have no "feel". They'll be a "turn by one finger" box.

      Well,

      I ended up buying the IROC Cardone reman box from Advance. I had a pump given to me, and it is the late model style with the O-ring fittings. So, I thought I would keep the generation the same and get the late model box, then I can possibly use some stock pressure hose, not sure from which vehicle yet. Gonna start with the 90 Camaro pressure hose and see what that does.

      Also got the long pitman arm, coupler from 77-86 pickup as directed by Davd Pozzi's site, (Lares part no. 200), a return line assy. (hard line) from a 90 Camaro, which has the O-ring fitting on one end, and then has the "cooler" section that ran across the radiator (only $9, so why not see if I can use it!).

      We'll see where that gets me.

      Good luck with it, the rag joint needs to be from a later model 1978 up. I have a part number on my web page, but the wrecking yards will have them. Even pickup rag joints work. I'd run a cooler of some kind, either the long tube or check larger cars or pickups for a "real" cooler.

      BTW - your webstie has been SUPER informative for me. I've spent a lot of time reading through your info there, the G Mod, etc. I would just like to say thanks for making that info available!

      FYI - That return line assy from the 90 IROC is the tube style cooler. I figure it will probably be enough for what I'm planning. And the price of $10 coudln't be beat and it has the O-ring fitting on it to mate with the late model box. I think the box it came in was probably just as expensive as the actual part!

      I have now decided to add Hydroboost brakes to the car while I'm at it. So the pressure hoses will have to be different. Gonna try some from a 81 Toronado Diesel to see how they might fit up. Heard good things about the Hydroboost conversion and my brakes are lacking.

      Our 2002 Camaro SS has hydroboost and it's great. The cooler tube you have should work pretty well.
