      Switch Pitch TH400...who is running one??

      I am considering converting my current fixed pitch TH400 over to variable pitch in the near future. I have talked with both PAE and TSP about them. Would love to here some feedback on them from you guys. Most of the buick guys I talked to seemed to like them.
      The car it would be going in is my 69 Camaro with a 408sbc. I am currently running a 3500 stall with a GV and I would really love to tighten up the converter for around town and long highway trips.

      Thanks guys!

      Quite a few Pontiac folks use them. Try the link for some good responses.

      I have been looking at the same option as you. 4l80e is to expensive in the 3k range but for around 1k I can do a variable pitch to my already heavy duty tb400 have the stall that I like and get a lock up for the highway.

      I would like to know what my highway speed will be with a final 1.1 locked up with a 26 inch tire at 70 mph. is there a calculator any were in the net.?

      70 MPH !!

      Ok, here ya' go: 1:1 final drive at trans.

      MPH= (RPM X tire diameter) > (gear ratio x 336)
      RPM= (MPH x gear ratio x 336) > tire diameter
      Rear end gear ratio = (RPM x tire diameter) > (MPH x 336)

      Well...I ended up skipping on the switch pitch. Ended up going with a Continental "tight" 10" fixed pitch converter. They said it will be very tight at cruise but will flash 2800-3000 at WOT.

      Heck with the DV over under you should be good to go. Remember you wouldnt have to completely change trans just front pump forward cluch/input and valve body from what my old tranny instructor told me. I keep thionking Ill get the input shaft pressed out of the one I have and wap on the 6 disc caddy clutch drum and swap in the front pump but havent got a converter nor cash so it sits in mom garage for now.
