      You guys are lucky!

As some of you know I live in the Netherlands and they now invented a new tax on new cars:
the "guzzler tax" starting 1st of februari 2008

Every car that puts out more then a certain amount of CO2 will be taxed according the amount through a formula and these are the results:
(1 euro is approx $1.45, so multiply the amount by 1.45 to see the impact in $$)
Oh...and our new car prices are way up there anyways..old price for a caddy XLR-V A6=121.150euros...so is around $175K

I feel for you Martin, but it seems that we in Finland can beat that by miles:

Global Warming scams are going to kill the economy before global warming ever gets a chance and with no economy there will be no global warming since we will all be walking carrying sticks and stones.

If people keep buying even if the price goes up, the people who make it will make more money. Problem is, competition has made it so they can't raise prices and the competition that is killing the economy the most is the government. When government goes into competition with buisiness with a tax we all lose. These taxes are seperating the rich from the poor by thinking that the busineses will sell less of the problem and more of the solution.

When the fleet mileage was raised and the auto manufactures started making higher mileage cars that were crap people bought trucks and suv's and screwed those numbers up big time.

If I was to ever hear that the money from taxes like that were to go specifically for the R&D to find another way to do what we do better ,it wouldn't be so bad .

I heard about an air powered car the other day the would go 110mph and 90miles range. I wonder who is going to want to tax the use of the air because we benefit from it ?
