First time poster / long-time lurker

Well, technically this is my second post. After reading a "haves"/"wants" thread, I felt worthy enough to respond (I "want" with the best of 'em).

I own a rather unusual car for a hot-rod/pro-touring enthusiast - a 1976 Chevrolet Impala. This was my first car, and I have always loved it. A Dream of owning a Corvair Corsa is the only temptation that has ever come close to us parting.

Despite my laundry list of wants, realistically, I could be happy if I could get this car's body in good shape, and make it handle as well as my 2000 Silverado (lofty standards, I know). I would love to be able to carve up some curves while sitting in the cushy bench seat of this land yacht.

      that's not my dog:

      current state:

      Specs:
350 2 bbl (140 hp from the factory - yikes!)
      TH350 auto
      <3.00:1 10 bolt
      Front discs / rear drums

      Modifications:
      HD springs (rear)
      New shocks (rear)
      Headers
      Dual-exhaust
      Cross pipe

      Pending modifications:
      HD springs (front)
      New shocks (front)
      Polygraphite bushings throughout
      Fender (driver's side) rust repair
      New (wider) tires

      Planned modifications:
      4 bbl carburetor
New crate small block (probably the GM 350 - 290 hp)
      Aluminum heads (?)
      Rear anti-sway bar (?)
Overdrive transmission (or Gear Vendors; either way it's a long-shot)

In conclusion: I've learned a lot, just lurking over the years. Many thanks to the host, and thanks to all for your contributions.

Talking about flashbacks. My parents bought a brand new 76 wagon with that same front end. (400 car, brother still has it) My mom was a librarian in a high school at that time and I used to trade cars with her so I could tow a landscape trailer. I had a 68 Camaro.
Just imagine the high school school librarian arriving in a loud bright red 68 Camaro with SS badges, white stripe around the nose, air shocks with big fat tires and a CB antenna on the trunk!
