Who did your paint in SoCal ?

Looking for some referals from those of you who have, or have seen great paint work.

Just about to that stage with my 70 LS1 firebird, and I wanna get this thing in pretty soon. Expecting to spend 3k on paint, plus I have some metal work that needs done, so I'm looking for a good "driver" quality job



Any help is greatly appreciated.

I used www.bestofshowcoachworks.com for my car.. GREAT guys and they do top notch work.

But, I'm not sure of your budget of $3k. The problem is that the materials (paint, clear, reducer, etc) can run a couple grand. Are you just looking for someone to shoot the paint or do bodywork too? Also, what about the cost for color sanding and buffing? It all adds up.. fast.

Great paint jobs arn't cheap and cheap paint jobs arn't great.

Don't go their if you expect to pay $3k for a complete paint job. They will laugh at you.

One of the problems that you're going to run into is that anyone worth a damn isn't going to want to do a "driver" quality paint job. Their work is their calling card so they either do it to the best of their ability or they don't do it!

I guess I shoulda' been more clear as to the level I want to take this car. Not looking for show quality necessarily, not that I wouldn't love that, but this car will be DRIVEN. I have had cars that I was afraid to park anywhere for fear of damage, and I know that sh#$ happens.

Just looking for above average (OEM+) quality paint and body.
The 3K budget for paint is after any metal and bodywork is done, so I'm hoping to find a shop with an "eye for details" and a fair price.

The problem is that the materials will be several thousand dollars.. that only leaves, at best, $1000 for the actual labor. Also, $1000 is about the minimum (12 hours) for color sanding and buffing.

You could go with a single stage paint to save money. The cheapest "driver" paint job I've seen is $5k.. I'm not a painter so maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see any hot rod shop painting a car for $3k.

We need some real paint shops to respond in here! lol

3000 is a drop in the bucket i just spent 3500 on paint and materials yesterday for my 69 and thats with my discount i'm just lucky that i can do all the labor myself

3k doesn't get you much.I only use PPG in my shop, last week I had over 2K just in supplies for one car. I wish you luck.

my car had all the metal work done by my brothers friend. straight as an arrow. he then painted the car. the results were horrible. $6500 later doug at starside designs repainted it. that wasnt any metal working. just sand blasting the front clip and starting over.

Dang, guess I'm dreamin' here guys, It's been many years since I have had a car painted, so I'm a bit shocked at the responses here.

I suppose that a few more nickels will need to be saved b4 I can get paint on this thing, because it's still worth it to me that it's done right.

I already have nearly 30K in this car over 3 years, so I guess another 5 or 6 grand is in order. Damn good thing I have an understanding Wife.

Looks like summer is in primer. Oh well, at least I'll be driving it.

Take 3 grand to Macco and you'll get a decent paint job. Tell them to go extra coats on the clear so you can wet sand and buff it out.

Lanzini Body Works in Huntington Beach.... they do great work, but that $3,000.00 may be tight!
