      '70 Goat in Tampa

Well after lurking here for almost a year I probably should introduce myself/project....lol. Car is a '70 Pontiac GTO convertible originally purchased new by my grandfather. It's a 455 automatic car, cardinal red with sandalwood interior and was originally loaded with just about everything (A/C, cruise control, power top, power windows, am/fm stereo, formula steering wheel..etc.) Car sat neglected for many years and when grampa passed away in '02 Dad and I decided to rebuild, upgrade and get the car in running order again. After a crappy experience with another body shop, Frank and the crew at Prodigy Customs "rescued" the car and have been making huge strides in progress. The plan is not a full out PT car, but we have "modded" the motor a bit, upgraded the suspension, brakes, wheels and tires but plan on leaving the interior mostly stock. The goal is to have the car appear mostly original but perform as if it was built using todays technology. Both rear quarters had to be replaced as grandpa did a bunch of damage back somewhere in the '70s when he got on it at one point, lost it, and managed to take out a large section of chain link fence, which also ripped the rear end out of the car....oops!!...Enjoy the pics and I'll try to post a little bit more this year...lol...hopefully with some completed pics.

Good choice on the bright red. What wheels do you plan to run?

Thanks, I've got nothing but good things to say about the crew at Prodigy Customs. The difference between working with a top notch shop and one that doesn't make the grade is amazing.

Thanks for the kind words Andrew and thanks for trusting us to work on such a special car with so much sentimental value. I am glad we were able to rescue the project. I have to tell you, my Prodigy's are not afraid of much, but they got a little intimidated when I told them the entire story and history. This is a killer car easily in my top 10 most special cars for both rarity and story reasons. Being the best year, convertible, super loaded, big engine, one owner, great colors, original drivetrain, bla, bla, bla, I can only guess at the huge value this car has. But Andrew is never going to sell it so it might as well be worth 2 cents!

We have the body all together now and tomorrow I will get back in town and take some pictures of the assembled body.

Vegas, yes this is the car in the way of your car, but it is coming out, your going in and you will be showing off soon just about the time the buzz wears off this one!

Blazed, were going to be in Ft Meyers this Sunday with Project Prodigy and Project EmptyNest. Both cars will be the feature vehicles at the March Performance show. Come on out and see us!

Thanks man. Sounds like we both have been waiting a long time to get to this point. Are they building the whole car or just a roller? I bet you are really excited! I can't wait to finally see the color go on my car. I spent a year in limbo with my last shop and have only seen my car briefly one time. I have only seen pictures of my wheels so when mine shows up it's going to be a huge reality check for me. Finally this is what I have poured all this money and time into. The good thing is I have had so much time to research the car and plan it out. The bad part is all the new ideas that cost more money.

At this point Prodigy has done the body work, paint and some assembly, bolting the body to the chassis, hanging doors, windows etc. On Frank's recommendation I plan on using Howard at Complete Auto Upholstry to put on the convertible top so that when it somes back to me it should be a roller minus the interior. I will have alot of minor things to do that I should be able to handle and hopefully the intitial fire up will take place sometime after the new year.

Yeah it has been a long time coming and I am stoked to see it this far along. Give you an idea, gramps passed in Feb '02, Dad and I "rescued" this one car from his collection shortly there after. We had it at another shop that basically stripped the car down, I think they lost some parts, stole some money, and shortly thereafter their business went to crap when the one competent partner left. The car sat for a couple years with promises that progress was going to be made, finally got sick of nothing being done and pulled the car and stuck it in my garage and started to look for someone else to take on the body work/paint. I was slowly plugging away at stuff I could do, and when I met Frank the motor, transmission, rear, and most of the suspension was completed, minus some minor things.

Wow, I can't imagine not seeing the car on at least a regular basis. I know what you mean about the reality check when seeing it in paint and things actually being accomplished. The stuff that I kept putting off because the car wasn't ready for it, all of sudden needs that stuff to be done....

I still haven't seen the wheels in person, Frank ordered them a while ago and they cut the wrong stud pattern so they are recutting and they should be here shortly. The tires came in yesterday so when the wheels get here hopefully we can get the tires mounted and get thsoe on the car and take a look at her.

Actually both cars are going to the level of of finish. Seems popular, we get all the dirty nasty stuff, and the owner gets the fun stuff like playing with the new pretty parts!

Can't wait to see your Goat finished. I'm doing a similar "restomod" on my 66 GTO that has been in my family for 25 years. I understand the attachment you have to it & hope you enjoy it when it is finished.

Here is some pics of the buildup of my '66. I have not updated the site in a few months, though. There has been more done to it, but I still have a long way to go. GTO's rock...
