Ported LT1 heads VS LT4 heads

Can LT1 heads be ported to flow close to the LT4 heads? Don't have the $$ to spend on LT4 heads & definetly not the AFR heads. Have a freind in CA who says his buddy that works at a race head shop can port them for me for cheap. Is it worth a try?
