      pinion angle help

I was driving my Nova down the freeway the other night and decided to brush up agianst the triple digit mark in 5th. I noticed a pretty substantial vibration coming from the driveshaft area. I realized I never checked or set the pinion angle of the diff. and I can't remember what it's supposed to be. Any ideas? TIA, Dave

Get a cheap angle finder from Home depot and measure your transmission angle on a surface that parallels your output shaft. Should be 5-7*.

Whatever it is, is what you want your pinion to be.....so that your ujoints are flexing the same amount equally.

Some schools of thought will tell you to point the pinion down 2* from even so that the angles are correct when you are under load, and wrapping your leaf springs up a little. I dont like this because of what happens when you let off at 100mph+. Hope this helps. -Scott

thanks Scott. I appreciate the help. I should be able to shim as needed. 5-7 down on the tailshaft and the same 5-7 down on the pinion as well.
