      Bump steer

      I was re-reading Chassis Engineering last night and stumbled across a pic that confuses me.



      From what I can see this looks like it would cause toe out during bump.

      Is this pic an accurate example?

      You`re right. The picture is off. The angle of the tie rod would be fine if it were on the same horizontal plane as the LCA. With the tie rod roughly where it is the inner tie rod needs to go down or the outter one up. The lines drawn through the arms and tie rod should all converge at the same point screen left. I`ve had that same book for 15 years or more and never noticed that diagram was off,good catch! Mark SC&C

      Ideally yes, but not always. It depends on what kind of roll steer you want under certain situations.

      Rarely do the tie rod's location have any resemblence to the LCA in my situations. It is close in most cases, but I find I can optimize it otherwise.
