Help me with a possible new truck purchase

I'm shopping for a new truck. Right now I have a 2004 Ford Ranger 4wd. It's not a bad truck I just want something with more interior room(want a 4 door truck) and just nicer overall. And I think I would like to get rid of my truck while its still worth something.

First I went to Ford and looked at the new Rangers. But they havnt really changed at all. So all I'd be getting within my price range is a new truck with no miles on it and it would probly have less options than my current truck. So I gain a payment(my current trucks paid off) and end up with truck thats not really nicer than the one I already have(except for the fact its brand new).

Then I checked out the Nissan dealership. A brand new Frontier with four doors is 25,000, thats out of my price range. But they did have a 2007 with 4,000 miles on it in my range. One of the manangers had it but traded it in for a bigger truck. It's pretty nice, looks sorta like this..

It's nothing fancy just a nice 4 door truck with the 4.0 engine and automatic. The bed already has been coated with some spray on bed liner, it has running boards, and a K&N air filter system. I test drove it and like the way it drives. It defintly has more power than my current truck and can tow more. Not 100 percent sure but I think the mpg will be similar to my current truck.

The big thing for me is right now I'm not completly sure if I should get a new tuck this year. I could wait one more year and save a few more bucks for a diffrent truck but then my truck will also depecrate(sp?) some to.

Anyone got some advice?? I know I can afford the truck with the right deal but I'm just not sure if I should just wait a little longer and do something different.

I'd wait a few weeks for the sales Andrew.
Them year off Nissans might suck. You never know. 4000 miles and
still there means someone was pissed or it was the bosses demo.

I agree with that other guy, try a Chevy out. My co worker has a new Canyon and he loves it. I kinda like it myself. Thought it would be a lead poop chute but it actually goes.

But im going for an Avalanche myself.

I have crew cab Chevy full size and Chevy's (IMO) have the most comfortable interior of all trucks out there. When I bought it, I was actually considering a Colorado until I saw that there is only a 3mpg difference between that and the full size...I am much happier with it plus there is more power

honestly...wait a lil bit...i drove my friends 08 250 (I know you arent looking at the 250 but I thought it represented ford well) and I thought it was great...it was very quiet...Personally I am a chevy man though, the new silverado crew cabs are amazing...extremely quiet...the LT's have great standard features and are just overall great vehicles...you can get a 2008 2wd chevy silverado 1500 crew cab with standard bed length for just about 18100 msrp...if you can afford something near that I would strongly consider that....great truck, great company...good luck with your search man!!!

well andrew how much more room do you need, as that was one of the original reasons for an upgrade??? ford and chevy have kept there mini trucks mini. nissan on the other hand has moved the frontier up to compete with the dakota, they are both a bit bigger than the other two. so if that is all the more room you need i say go for it, the mileage will be the same. nothing to fear with a nissan truck, my fathers old hardbody style is still on the road 300k later, our exterra is a great truck and not a single trip to the dealer at 45k. now mind you i am a huge ford truck man and wouldnt buy any other brand of truck, including a titan. the chevies kill a ford at the pump with better mileage, and have decent power. surprising as it may be i wouldnt buy any dodge truck, i dont know anybody that hasnt put a tranny in one!!! ford and chevy arent gonna do anything significant to there line of trucks in the near future, and the dakota has been sale proof since its redesign. the nissan is a product of a recent redesign and enlargement. so in short i say go for it, your ranger is just gonna lose, and isnt enough for ya, so go get the frontier. you wont be disappointed unless you really need a fullsize gas hog. my .02 dan

I drive the exact truck you pictured in your post as mt DD and I love it. It has very good power and is super comfortable. I bought it as my company vehicle and had the choice of anything I wanted. I paid $26K brand new with every option checked including the Fosgate 400w sound system. If I crashed it today, I'd buy another one tomorrow. I needed something a little smaller than a Silverado because I'm in it all day on the road and I sometimes have to get into some pretty tight spaces in the city. It's a tough toss up with the Chevy as it has proven to be one of the best trucks we have bought for our fleet (06 LT 5.3) but the Nissan is optioned to the hilt. Can't go worng with either.

Guess I should update this and say I got a truck last night. It took alot of going back and fourth with the dealership. At one point I was getting mad at the attitude a mananger had and me and my dad left. We got two miles down the road and they called me made a good offer and I beat them down on the phone some more, then I put them on hold and talked with my dad some and we agreed to go back and buy the truck. They ended up giving me way more than I thought my truck was worth and then they went down on the price some. I'll post pictures later today.

Did you mean $28K MSRP? On Edmunds a SB crew cab LT1 has a base MSRP of $28,985

Guess I'm late to the party.

I was going to say Chevy Silverado, the motor trend truck of the year.
Or the GMC counterpart. Ford F-150's in the FX-4 trim are REALLY nice too.

      Dodge......turd.

I didnt really want a full size. I drive my Dad's four door F150 sometimes and it's to big for me. I'm only 5'5 and 120 pounds and the truck just feels too big for me.

I won't even buy a Nissan(or any other foreign car for that matter).

My wife had a Pathfinder when we got married. A couple of years back she hit a pole head on in a parking lot. She was probably going about 10 mph, if that. No airbag deployment and she was fine. The pole ripped straight through the front until it hit the front suspension, which it bent. Bent the frame on the truck and everything, totaled it.

We replaced it with a new Trailblazer and couldn't be happier. It is 100 times what the Pathfinder was.

Andrew, sorry I didn't see this post earlier. I could have gotten you a "Suppliers Discount" on a new Canyon or Colorado. In fact...I can get anyone here that same discount on a GM vehicle. It's around $1000 dollars. Better than nothing. Sorry to see that we lost you to a Japanese competitor. The next time you're in the market for a new vehicle, don't forget to give us (The Big 3) a shot. Good luck with the new truck.

I think you'l like it. my brother has a '95 w/ about 220K on it. I sold it to him w/ 88K when I was selling cars for a short while back when. had 1 tranny rebuild in that time, but the engine is going strong, just a couple of timing belt changes. a friend has a '00, it too is a nice truck.
I understand the whole domestic vs import thing, but considering that not all 'domestic' trucks are actually made 'domestically', I would be apt to get whatever I feel is the better truck. I think all the mfgrs have good product to offer. but, IMHO, a nissan titan made in mississippi is more an american truck than an chevy avalanche made in mexico.

A Japanese car...made by a Japanese company...that takes all it's profits back to Japan is more American than an American car...made by an American company...that keeps all it's profits here in America?

a japanese company (nissan) owned by a french company (renault) building cars here compared to an american company (GM) that sources engines from china and mexico and builds cars in china and korea and mexico and God knows where else?

please, it's a global economy. GM has done everything they can to move production OUT of the US while the imports can't build US factories quick enough. I'm about supporting the american WORKER, not the american COMPANY.
