Howdy all
Hey everyone
Joined this forum a few months ago, but have just been observing and reading some stories and comments on here. I would like to compliment all of you on your projects, finished or not. There are some awesome rides here!
I grew up in the 60's and 70's and can honestly say that i had a 'pro touring' car back in 1980. It was a 1968 firebird with a 400 and a powerglide trans. it had ws6 honeycomb 15" wheels with bfg 60 series tires. it had been lowered by the previous owner about 2-3 inches all around and added front and rear swar bars. the body had trans am ducts on the front fenders, a 78 z28 tear drop scoop on the hood, and a gto judge wing. it was painted that original metalic pea green color. i only had the car for a few months before it was stolen and stripped. I had quite a few cars in my youth, but this was my favorite. My dad had owned a used car lot and we owned several cars that i wish he would have kept..70 boss 302, 68 gto, 68 442, several mustang converts and fastbacks of the 60s, etc, ect..... You know the saying, 'hindsight is always 20/20'
Anyhow, i do have one car that i inherited from him after he passed away... a 1967 cougar. I drove it off and on through my highschool years and it was a decent original car. he stored it in a damp garage for about 17+ years. the moisture took its toll on that poor car, but i was able to change all the fluids and tune it up and it runs pretty good. It needs a ton of work though. I'm hoping to restore it with my daughter in the next few years (she's only 6 now).
I bought a big ol' Buick a couple years back from the original owner. Its a 1972 LeSabre convertible. The only things that i have done to it are 1) added 18x9 Coddington wheels (personally, I like the rims, but think boyd and his company suck)and 2) i lowered it 2 1/2" in the front and about 2" rear. The car is far from perfect, but I have fun with it, and my kid and her schoolmates really dig it.
I have a couple of other projects as well, maybe I'll talk about them another time.

The body and interior restored mostly to stock. If I were to win the lotto, i might go with a downdraft Weber setup. I like the vintage style wheels in bigger diameters, but some of the Fiske, BBS, Bonspeed, etc...rims look great on these old cars as well
11-11-2007 #7I love the Buick! The Cougar looks pretty solid for being out of commision for so long. The Trans Am cars always had a mean look to them for sure.
The 68 Firebird sounds like it would have been a very cool car!Josh
