Hello from Chi-Town, fellow Mopar Maniac

      Hey Guys,

Scotty H. here & I'm new to the board. I've been "lurking" for awhile & just wanted to introduce myself & my projects.

The first one is a 69 RR that I've had for 20+ yrs. 550 horse 440 w/ torqueflite (had to ditch the 833 cause of constant breakage). This beast was built through my teens & 20s/30s. It's an "anti-touring" car & is like driving an 11 sec tractor. She's broken my heart a million times but I still love her & one day she'll be my son's car.

The up comming project is a 71 Turbo Barracuda. I've always loved that car & about 4 yrs ago I picked up a solid roller for too much money. I'm building the car to pretty much do it all & be adjustable to different types of motorsports (road, drag, open road). It will be a fully caged, reinforced uni-body.
The motor is currently in the shop (Shadey Dell Speed Shop) getting the goods. It's a 418 cu. R3 block w/ Bryant racing billet crank & crower titainium rods. Indy 360-2 cnc & hyd roller. It should be done sometime this winter & I can start messing with the turbo system.
I'm going w/ a single rear mount for packaging & weight dist. The out put should be in the 750 (9psi)-1100 (18psi)hp range, depending on tune. I'm working on a composite intake w/ incorporated a/w intercooler & should keep chage temps lowwer that ambient. Front suspension will be an AlterKation & I'm going with a Lateral Dynamics 3 link out back. I'm still not real sure on the trans. My heart tells me to go with super-built T56 or TKO, but my brain says built 727 w/gear vendors. Any input??
That's just the major details. I will post pics as I progress & look forward to picking brains & exchanging Ideas with ya'll.

I'll post this in the classifieds but I can make mention here. A couple years ago, I purchased an entire rear frame, suspension, brakes, & drivetrain from a Gen II (98) Viper GTS. I've also got an extra diff, half shafts & shocks. I'm afraid that with the HP I'll be making, this won't hold up. It would be an AWSOME IRS set up for anyone looking. The install is not as difficult as you may think. It's actually very similar to back-halving a car.

I've got $3400 into it & just want to make my money back. I think it's steal considering what you get vs. other diff/suspension set-ups.
Please contact me (email)if you/'re interested.

      take care,
      scotty H.

Welcome Scotty. Your Cuda project sounds very nice. I have an AlterK and 3 link/Watts on my list too. On the tranny, from a guy with a 727, I would say go all the way and go with the 6 spd. If it's more drag than anything else, I would understand the auto, but a proper road car has a manual (IMHO).

      Good luck with the project!

      Thanx Droptop,

Yeah, I really want to go 6 spd, but with that type of torque I'm really conerned about breakage (I will be drag racing more than anything else). Good luck on your project, maybe we'll hook up at an event in a couple years.

      take care,
      scotty H.

      Scotty,

Maybe when you get your turbo set-up done I could hire you to build me one for my 440. I think that's where I'm headed eventually, but the design aspect is over my head...

      Thanks,

      Darin,

I'm in the city, N.W. side. I'm also a member of the Chicago Gearheads. Great club!

      Droptop,

Nice ride! I would be more than happy to help you out w/ some input on the turbo project. I'm new to this too, but if you have a solid mechanical background, there's enough info out there to get close. Then it's trial & error, like everything else.

I would suggest picking up "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. Great info & solid blueprint for get it done. If you understand the basics, you can design a system to fit your needs. Also, this board & turbomustangs.com have a ton of great info & the members w/ exerience are willing to share it. That's what makes these boards so awsome. The folks involved.

Thanks Scotty. I'm going to do the chassis upgrades this winter, then I'll go to phase II on the motor next winter. Keep us updated.
