      Front Wheel fitment Question

I bought a set of BMW 17*8 wheels with 225/45-17 tires. The rims have about 6.5 inches of backspacing. On the front (with disk brakes), a 1.5 inch spacer will fit the 225, a 1.75 spacer will fit a 235 tire and a 2 inch spacer will fit a 245 tire. However, I don't have any sheet metal on the front.

My question is, will I have fender clearance issues with a 17*8 inch rim and 4.5 inches of backspace on the front running a 245/45-17 tire? It will clear all the suspension compents, but I'm unsure of the sheet metal. If there are clearance problems, I'll stay with the 1.75 inch spacer and a 235 tire. Also, I'm running GW UCA and Hotchkis springs.

The rears Will bolt on without any spacers. I could probably even put a 235 tire on it. I figure a one inch spacer should allow a 255/45 or 255/50-17 without any clearance issues. So for the rear 5.5 inches of backspace seams optimal with a 17*8 inch rim.

I'd love to help, but need to know what kind of car we're talking about here.

If you have a 1st gen Camaro, then the typical front wheel size is a 17X8 with a 4.75" backspacing w/ a 245/45/17. You should have no sheetmetal rubbing issues with that size. So, I suppose the 1.75" spacer with that wheel would put it in the proper location.

Hmmm..... That would be the same subframe as a 1st gen f-body, but different sheetmetal. That means I have absolutely no info for you on the subject. I would think a Nova would have less tire clearance than an F-body, but don't know for sure.
